A restorative stay where the mighty Waikato awa meets the Tasman Sea

A restorative stay where the mighty Waikato awa meets the Tasman Sea.
Just over an hour drive from Auckland. Come and relax at our well loved family bach. Located in Maraetai Bay fronting a large reserve that looks over the river delta, the extensive dune system, and down the awa as it flows to the active bar with pumping surf. Great for bird watching: wading birds in the bay, the Taranui (Caspian Tern) diving for fish, the Kahu patrolling above, and Kōtare, Tui and the Pīwakawaka close by. We have resident Warou (Welcome Swallows) nesting above our entrance door so that gets a bit hectic in the breeding season! A great playground on the reserve. Wonderful walks in the dunes, in Colbourne Reserve and awesome walks on Sunset Beach or the Coastal Hill Walk giving magnificent views over the coast and river system.

Our bach has four separate bedrooms, with a maximum of 6 people at one time. The lounge and kitchen is an open plan living area that leads onto a large deck, with comfortable but rustic outdoor furniture. Great sunsets, clouds and clear skies permitting.

A 5 minute drive to Sunset Beach,15 minute walk to the Wharf Dairy, and a 30min drive to Tuakau/Pukekohe for extra provisions.

We provide tea, instant coffee, a stove top (moka pot) if you bring your own ground coffee, a selection of board games, electric stove top and oven, large fridge and microwave. Bed linen and towels will be provided.

This is both a great summer destination or a cosy winter get away.
