While the pool area is pleasant, it feels somewhat small for a hotel of this size. The palapas are positioned quite close together, which limits privacy for guests. It would also improve the experience if pool rules were more consistently enforced, as items such as external speakers and large floatation devices can be disruptive. Additionally, the pool towels appear worn and may benefit from being refreshed or replaced.

It was a very busy time during our “stay” we were supposed to be there for 4 nights but ended up checking out after the first night. They were 98% booked. The only night we stayed and tried to find a place to eat we had 22! tables ahead of us. No room upgrade was available, even though we had garden view club level we couldn’t find a single available bed at the beach next morning. Think about it - not one place to stay at the beach when you are on beach vacation. Be prepared to walk a lot, and I mean a lot. Bed was very uncomfortable. Stuff is not helpful. The only good thing I can say about the resort is it’s very beautiful and well kept and smells great at different lobbies, but it doesn’t help when you can’t sleep comfortably, eat at decent hour or find space at the beach.

Let me start off by saying I am not one to complain. But, this experience at Excellence El Carmen has been extremely unpleasant. The food here has been inedible, especially the room service. The rooms are rundown and honestly air conditioning is so horrible, we wake up in puddles of sweat or shaking from the cold, there is no in between. The sheets, towel and scented toilet paper gave my wife a very bad allergic reaction the first couple of nights here. The fact also the staff expected us to know that we were supposed to use the app for everything and scoffed basically when we didn’t know how or when to use it was unprofessional. Also, the fact that NONE of the charges and holds were clearly explained is extremely concerning and frustrating. Honestly nothing about this resort was explained to us and if it was, it was explained very poorly. Frankly, this entire experience has been an absolute nightmare and waste of time and money. This was supposed to be our honeymoon and it’s been completely ruined. I’ve attached multiple pictures and videos of the faulty room and the food we requested that took over an hour, and we had to call the room service desk a good couple of times during our stay here just to remind the to bring the food. My wife is also diabetic so not being able to eat anything here has been EXTREMELY dangerous and frustrating.

Overall, staff was great, friendly and helpful. Rooms were spacious and nice except few things could be improved. Hangers in the closet were broken our stuck together. One of the taps in the bathroom was not fully functional. More lighting inside rooms, especially bedside. No door to bathrooms and shower may be somewhat inconvenient. We got upgraded to an ocean view suite because they originally didn’t give us a 2 double bed room as requested. The original room would have been in more isolated area with shower completely open view. Food was delicious although more take and go choices should be made available (e.g food truck) for lunch for people that like to enjoy more time on the beach. Pager system for waiting for restaurants is a good idea as you can be paged anywhere in the resort. The Grill, chez Isabelle, buffet stands out amongst all the dinner restaurants. Drinks at the Palms bar was excellent, always made with care. Revive bar had excellent juices and smoothies made to order. Although poor staff seems overwhelmed sometimes. A few Sun loungers on the beach were broken although still somewhat useable. Beach area was clean and well maintained. Night entertainment was good although prefer more live band music rather than shows (circus, legends, etc). Turn down service was great! Highly recommend!

Excellence El Carmen hotel failed us from the moment we got there. Initially when I made the reservations I requested that at least one of the rooms to have two beds as we are a party of 5, but when we got there we got two rooms with one bed each. When I spoke with the manager I was just told they can’t do so at this time and at no time during our 5 day stay could they accommodate our pre-booking request. It would have been nice to know before booking that our wish could not be accommodated as I had other hotel options. The staff were not accommodating and when food was ordered 50% of the time the orders were incomplete or wrong. One night my daughter never got her meal and no one from management even came out to apologize. The hotel had an Indian restaurant and the hostess at the door (Daniela) refused us everyday. We never got to eat there, yet we stood back and watched other folks get into the restaurant. Please note a reservation to this restaurant was not required. I end up paying one of their employee to get us into the other restaurants, just so we wouldn’t have any more hassles. This was supposed to be an all inclusive hotel, making our vacation hassle free, but it was the complete opposite. I usually take about 3 all inclusive vacation per year and this was my worst vacation ever I could not wait to leave. I have stayed at Beaches, Sandals, RUI, and Sweptway in Negril Jamaica and these are by far more accommodating and enjoyable places to stay.
