Check in was delayed by about an hour after check in time. After that it was wonderful. Resort, staff, dinning and drinks incredible. Will definitely go back to Excellence resorts.

Excellent pool atmosphere. Very clean and not so busy you can’t get chairs. Restaurants had a lot of good options. Few notes on food areas. The main buffet has decent selection. However the food was often cold. Eggs being brought out in a new pan were cold right when taken. Throughout the restaurants they had the seafood house, that was the most dissatisfying. The surf turf dinner was not good. Small lobster tail. The “ ribeye” was not a ribeye. It was more like a pounded flank steak and they could not get the cook to medium rare. Always over done. Some menu items crossed. The same ribeye at lobster house was the same at the French restaurant. Main bars had decent selection of liquor. There were some beach bars that had top shelf. Beach is a short walk from pool. One thing annoying at this resort is the constant bombardment of executions. You get hit up when you bring in luggage. When you’re at the pool. And on the beach. They are non stop in your face to book excursions. Also, they are allowing vendors to sell jewelry, fake handbags, and other junk on the beach. At times there were non stop in your face haggling. Pool areas and beach front were always clean and able to get chairs and the waitstaff was wonderful about bringing drinks, food and checking in on you. The rooms were big, good amenities, how ever something was off with the electrical. Could barely charge a phone. The AC would not stay on and could not keep the air flow moving. It said it was 68. Lowest it could go

Had a great vacation at Excellence El Carmen. Quick check in. Tons of good food options—and the drinks were good. We especially enjoyed margaritas from Joan at the lobby bar, and Belen and Yudeli made sure our favorite table was waiting for us every morning at The Kitchen Table. Many other great waiters and wait staff all the restaurants—wish I could remember more names.

Expedia's travel service was excellent: flight, transfers and resort bookings all in one place. Only comment: Expedia's virtual assistant needs some better AI. We chose return flights with WestJet because they suited our needs, but I was not impressed with their baggage service or the plane from PUJ to YYZ. Excellence El Carmen was the best adult all-inclusive we've visited so far. We chose it because of a prior great experience at an Excellence property in Mexico. Best choice of restaurants we've encountered (with no reservations required.) Most bars were very well stocked and the bartenders ranged from good to excellent. We had booked an Excellence Club level room and were very happy with the perks and amenities that came with it. Whether we go back to the Dominican Republic or to a different country, we will always look for an Excellence property first.

Loved that we could go to the beach at noon and there were covered lounges available. Ocean here is a little rough. Almost every first floor room has a pool, so your room with a pool view is just your neighbor's pool. Tried to sit at main pool around 2pm, no lounges available, but was able to find empty lounges at executive pool. First floor room with pool was the same price as executive club room, only real difference (for me) was, an executive room let you go to the Magna restaurant where they had a great tomahawk steak . Food and included room service were good. Nightly entertainment so - so. Older crowd, mid 30's and up , I would go again.

It is a beautiful property. Staff was excellent, rooms are beautiful. We had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend Excellence Properties. The one thing we did find was the cigar shop was closed many times when the hours showed it should have been open.

I really wanted to like this resort based on the reviews, but they seem a bit skewed. For the price you pay you would like some sort of luxury experience but this location disappointed us! We reserved a room with a swim up pool and water was cold not heated and it was never cleaned. Food at the Asian restaurant was delicious and the grill was good but service was incredibly slow. The desserts in my opinion were awful, the majority were made out of gelatin. Food trucks were supposed to open daily at noon and they never were open on time and they had no rush to get them up and running, which was frustrating because if one is drinking they need to eat without having to run back to their rooms to get dressed and come back to a restaurant. Tipping at this resort was out of control. They expected a tip almost with every service and they would prioritize people with cash in their hands. One night they had authentic food and we expected more. Housekeeping will come knocking at 8 AM which we would like to sleep in on vacation. Housekeeping also was extremely loud in the mornings and you could hear them arguing which was very frustrating. For what we paid there are plenty of other options out there. We won’t be back
