Get your second wind at Comet Farm. Nestled amid rolling hills and sprawling meadows, this retreat sits between Woodstock and Okemo Mountain, a setting for hiking, cycling, skiing, family outings and moments of self-discovery. As the sun bathes the landscape in warm hues, the expanse of big skies will leave you awe-inspired throughout the day, while the night unveils a breathtaking canvas of bright stars. Awaiting you are Vermont experiences such as antique stores, farmers markets and breweries.
Comet Farm is located two miles up a town-maintained gravel road, which requires all-wheel-drive in winter and early spring.
This "upside down" guest apartment -- the kitchen, and living and dining rooms are on the second floor, and the bedrooms on the first -- is attached to the main house, yet is private with a separate entrance and parking. It was completely renovated in 2023 by one of the owners, who is a designer and carpenter, and a host of local craftspeople. It is clean, fresh and airy, with a style that combines modern Scandinavian luxury and traditional Vermont craft.
Reclaimed hand-hewn timbers, with original number markings, form the structure of the home. There is freshly painted shiplap and rafters, and new flooring. Oversized ventilating skylights open views to big skies and the surrounding mountainsides.
As for the rooms, there is a new kitchen that features stainless-steel appliances, granite counters and a stocked pantry. The baths gleam with new ceramic tile shower enclosures and towel warmers. The two bedrooms contain queen-size beds with large closets and European linens. In the living room are a custom built-in dining area and wood shelving, and new furniture throughout, including a deep-seated couch and a swivel chair; a nook with desk and chair for remote work; fast-speed fiber-optic internet; baseboard heating plus a mini-split for air conditioning and additional heating; and a media center with a smart TV and sound bar.
Finally, there is a private balcony on the top floor with seating that offers views to the sunset in the west. And there are walking paths and dedicated outdoor sitting areas for guests.
