Harkia Villas is a complex of 2 luxurious villas, villa Thimari & villa Faskomilia, designed by its owner Argiri Vasilaki. Both villas offer a unique panoramic view, by hanging over the hill Anemomilos and overlooking the Cretan Sea. The villas are perfectly located; Close to sea and mountain, allowing the guests to explore destinations in the western and eastern part of the island.

The exterior: An outdoor & private swimming pool with 4 sun loungers encircled by flowers, olive trees and grass. There is a large balcony with a pergola table for 4-6 people and a private barbecue free to use whenever you want. On the first floor of the villa there is also a large balcony with a swing for 2 people and a table with 4 chairs to enjoy the beautiful mornings and charming colours of the evening. Private parking for up to 2 cars just next to the villa.

The interior: On the ground floor there is a large living room for up to 5 people, the kitchen, the dining area and one bedroom. The kitchen is fully equipped and has a large dining table. The bedroom has two single beds with coco-mat mattresses, a small balcony and a bathroom with bathtub.

Οn the first floor there is a bedroom with a large double bed with coco-mat mattress and pillows. In addition, there is a bathroom with shower/jacuzzi and a large balcony. with spectacular view on the Cretan Sea.

Harkia Villas are built at an altitude of 500 meters and offer an experience of tranquility and nature away from the mass tourist spots. On the other hand, our guests can find restaurants, supermarkets and cafes within a 10km radius. More specifically:

- Platanias area is 10km away. In Platanias there are shops, restaurants, bars, supermarkets, gas stations, local tavernas and more. In addition, there is a sandy beach.
- The town of Rethymno is 15km away.
- The monastery of Arkadi is 8 km away. It is an important historical site and one of the must-visit spots on the island.
- Ancient Eleftherna and its museum are 20 km away.
- Margarites village famous for its ceramics is 24 km away.
- Kastro Tavern is 7km away. It is located in the village Mesi with a very nice environment and delicious food.

We had the most amazing stay from start to finish. We got there after midnight due to flight times, but were offered a guide to get us there or clear directions with a code for a key box. When we got there, the property had outside lights to guide us in and a fridge with a home cooked meal in, snacks, wine, olive oil and fruit. :-). So welcoming. The next day when we woke up we realised how beautiful the villa was and the views are just stunning. There is a twisty mountain road to get up to the villa but it’s very quiet. You’ll see more goats than cars. Take your time and enjoy the scenery and all is well. The pool was spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable, the showers wonderful and it was very well equipped. The villa is within half an hour of Rethymno which is delightful. We were also within an easy drive of Knossos, Chania, Heraklion and Lake Kournas. One day however, we just stayed home and enjoyed the relaxation of the villa. :-)As we had a super late flight home and as no one was due to arrive the day we left, our hosts kindly agreed that we could stay way beyond the check out time and enjoy our last day without rushing. We stayed until 4pm and we are so appreciative of the kindness. We even received a parting gift. I cannot recommend Harkia Villas enough. Simply stunning. X.

This villa exceeded our expectations in every level. The location was quiet and serene with sweeping views of the wild Cretan mountains, gorge and sea. The home was spacious, in excellent working order in all regards and had the most comfortable beds Coco Mat. The owners Nick and Vasiliki are great led us with a full course dinner, wine, olive oil and fruit which was completely unexpected but very much appreciated. They are excellent people who understand Filoxenia, a Greek term referring to hospitality. I highly recommend this property for your next stay Rethymno. A car rental is a must, fyi.

Such a relaxing break!

Fantastic welcome from Vaso including a lovely homecooked meal. The villa is lovely, we felt instantly at home. Well equipped, comfortable and clean. Loved relaxing in and by the pool.Do go and find the small kafenion behind the church up in Harkia, couldn't believe how welcome we were made to feel. To much to explore in a week, we will be back.Many thanks

Wonderful peaceful location

We have just returned from a wonderful two week stay in this beautiful villa, in the most peaceful location. During the present climate, this was just what we needed to escape a little, and wind down on this lovely laid back island. The villa was immaculately cared for, cleaned twice a week during our stay, and we were supplied with a meal on arrival, and further gifts of cakes and olive oil. The pool was a delight, the beds comfortable, and we have absolutely no regrets over our stressful lead up to our decision on wether to go ahead with this holiday. Many thanks to Irini and family.

VillaThimari Beautiful !

We have recently returned from three weeks at the wonderful Villa Thimari .We usually rent a villa for our summer break and we have stayed in some lovely places . However this was far and away the best experience we have had. .Irini and her lovely parents did everything they possibly could to make us welcome providing a delicious home cooked meal on our arrival and bringing us wine olive oil cakes and scrumpy cakes. The villa was stylish but comfortable with everything you could possibly need .The roof terrace was perfect for stargazing and watching the buzzards circle and the swallows diving for a drink .The peace and quiet was a wonderful gift for us (Living in Central London) and the views were spectacular. We havent visited Crete for many years and had forgotten how hospitable generous and kind the Cretan people are, Wewill not leave it so long next time. Thank you for making our stay so memorable .Would recommend Crete and your beautiful villa every time. The Bennetts

Excellent villa holiday

Our holiday at Thimari Villa was absolutely perfect. We were met on our arrival by Irini and her mother who explained everything and left a delicious pork meal which was just what we needed after a long day travelling. In addition to this were their own eggs, olive oil, wine, fruit and a cake halfway through our week which was again delicious. I Highly reccommend this villa.

Great location with fabulous views; immaculate accommodation, and the best hospitality.

Sometimes you think some reviews can be 'over the top', but this property deserves the 5 star rating. The friendly Vasilaki family really do make sure that everything you need is just right; delicious food on arrival with welcome pack, and regular towel and bed changes, pool cleaning etc, but also immediate responses to requests e.g. they bought a new DVD player because we found the existing one faulty, and prepared another delicious meal for us upon request (big tasty portions too). A car trip / hike to get there, but you are rewarded with beautiful views, and a real sense of splendid isolation in luxurious accommodation. A good base for touring too. Lidl supermarket is convenient and not too far away, and has everything you might need. There are 2 villas on the site, but both are completely separate, and private. We loved it, and think that you will too.

Villa Thimari is in the most beautiful location up in the hills behind Rethymno.

We have just returned from a wonderful fortnight in Villa Thimari. The location of the villa and magnificent view, along with the peace and tranquility made for a really relaxing holiday. The Vasilaki family were so helpful, we have never had such a good service. The house was cleaned and towels changed every 2nd day and all the linen changed every 4th day. After a long journey from Scotland and a battle with our SatNav, we arrived very late (having given up any hope of food) to find a delicious meal waiting for us along with wine and olive oil produced by the family. The villa and pool are both beautiful. Apart from enjoying a relaxing time at the house we would recommend a visit to nearby Arkadi Monastry - a beautiful site. We enjoyed the beaches on the south coast; crystal clear water and not busy, but loved (particularly our son) the beaches on the north side for the great surf, nice ones out west of Rethymno a bit. We had lovely meals in To Pigadi restaurant, 31 Xanthoudidou, Old Town Rethmyno, 'modern take on Cretan cuisine' as they put it. Thankyou again to the Vasilaki family for a wonderful fortnight, would thoroughly recommend Villa Thimari.

Wonderful

We spent three weeks at the villa and wish we could have stayed longer. The property is beautiful and Irini and her family couldn't have made us feel more welcome. They brought us delicious food, cakes, vegetables from their garden, and eggs from their chickens during our stay. They came every two days to clean and quickly came to our rescue when we managed to lock ourselves out of the villa. The property had everything we could need and we found the peace and quiet and amazing views very relaxing. We had two small kids and really enjoyed Bali Beach with them. Also, check out The View Restaurant just a 10 minute walk down the road. Hope we can go back.

Almgefühl mit Meeresblick

Wir sind jetzt den ersten Tag wieder zurück aus unserem Urlaub und können zurückschauend nur positives vermelden. Unsere Vermieter haben sich liebevoll um uns gekümmert. Alle zwei Tage wurde das Haus und Pool gereinigt. Wer ruhe sucht und wem es nicht zu stressig ist 9 KM auf einer Bergstraße ins Tal zu fahren ist hier absolut gut aufgehoben. In ca: 15 Miunten ist man unten am Strand oder kann in den dortigen Supermärkten seine Einkäufe erledigen.Das Haus ist großzügig geschnitten und gut ausgestattet. Nachts kann es etwas kalt werden da man in den Bergen wohnt ( jedenfalls war dies ende Mai anfang Juni so.). Familie mit Kindern oder zwei Pärchen werden sich bestimmt wohl fühlen da im Erdgeschoss als auch auf der ersten Etage jeweils Bäder,Schlafzimmer und Terassen vorhanden sind so das jeder seine Privatsphäre hat. Wir haben hier 3 wunderschöne Wochen verbracht. WiFi ist vorhanden ist allerdings etwas instabil so das hin und wieder die Verbindung abbricht. Dies war aber auch der einzigste negative aspekt.
