The place was ok when we checked in but shortly after there was a gas smell. We checked with the front desk and were told that it was not the first time. The cleck came in the room and sprayed air freshner and told us that should fix the smell. Both one of my kids and I started getting massive headaches and then Nausea. We found anotyer hotel and left as we didnt feel safe. As if today, we have yet to be reimbursed for both the room and the tourist tax.

Although it is an old hotel, hotel staffs are very helpful and it is in convenient location, close to terminal station and also free breakfast is plus! They have many restaurants and cafe nearby and also laundry store is just across the hotel.

Good breakfast option! We love it specially the milk! People in charge of the breakfast are nice. The hotel is close to termini station. The only downside is they’re renovating some of the rooms. So, the area near the elevator at the lobby is messy and dusty.

One Night Stay at Hotel Caliornia in Rome

Check-in was easy. Staff was friendly and helpful. They allowed us to store our luggage since it was not check-in time yet. Very simple room, seemed clean. However, no conditioner, and the vent was putting out a bad smell. (sewage like). I sprayed the sheets with perfume and cologne to help. We were just there overnight. The hotel offers a very nice breakfast spread with cheeses/meats and other options like scrambled eggs, breads, and juices.

We loved how close it was to Roma Termini. It was about a 3 block walk from Termini. We were able to take the Leonardo Express train from the airport to Roma Termini and then walk to the hotel. We also walked to the Colosseum which took about 15-20 minutes. We also walked to the Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps, which took about 25-30 minutes each way. The hotel common areas looked a bit run down but the room was fairly modern. The bathroom was very nice and spacious. We had 2 sinks in our Quadruple room. The breakfast was good with scrambled eggs and cut up hot dogs, croissants and cereals. We feel we saved a lot of money on eating out and taxis. The metro is also nearby at Roma Termini if you want to go to the Vatican.

Hotel is very close to Rome train station which is very convenient. Our room was in need of some TLC. Bed nice, clean, comfortable. Toilet area clean and serviceable but no extra roll of toilet paper, bath was in need of repair especially the tap wear. Walls needed painting.

We would not stay at this property again. We chose it for its proximity to the train station (you can't beat it!) and the fact they offered luggage storage for multiple days while we went to Naples. However, the staff when we left our luggage was very unhelpful and annoyed with us. We asked questions and he would not answer them and just say "check your email" for our luggage storage confirmation. When we returned to stay one night before our flight home, we waited 20 minutes for someone to be at the front desk so we could check in (we arrived ~9pm). We were in our room 6 hours before we had to leave for our train and that was almost too long. The room had a WC but the shower opened directly into the rest of the room, there was a curtain to separate from the bed but the shower and drink were basically in the room without separation. It was very awkward. In addition, the holder for the shower head was broken so it held it at a weird angle where we had to be crammed in the corner. The water pressure was non-existent. I cannot imagine staying here for any length of time again.
