When you arrive at the end of the plateau, you will be at Puech Haut, you will then have a splendid view of Cordes-sur-Ciel, the Cérou valley and the bell tower of the church of Campes. We have renovated our old stone house to open it up to the surrounding nature. You will be quiet, surrounded by nature and close to superb tourist sites, shops and restaurants. The house is a 15-minute walk, 3 minutes by car from Cordes-sur-Ciel (Grand site Occitanie) and 25 km from Albi (World Heritage of Humaninté).
You will arrive at Puech Haut by a tarmac country lane, lined with oaks and then lilacs.
Le Puech Haut is our second home and we only offer it for rent when we are not there. The house can accommodate 6 people in 130m2.
On the ground floor,
the country kitchen is equipped with quality appliances (oven, microwave, induction hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine), espresso coffee machine, kitchen utensils, crockery and basic products to prepare meals (salt, pepper, oil, vinegar...) and table and kitchen linen.
A large living room of 50m2 is organised as a dining room which can gather you around a large dining table, a library and a living room. Bright and carefully decorated, we hope that you will feel as good as we do, to observe nature behind the bay windows, leaf through some of our books, listen to a CD, work in the office, ... or warm up by the wood stove.
A small complementary living room allows you to watch TV, warm up by the fireplace or read in peace.
Three bedrooms will allow you to rest comfortably. One of the 3 bedrooms, the largest, is on the ground floor, the other two are upstairs. The 3 bedrooms each have an en-suite bathroom, all 3 equipped with a shower. 2 of the bedrooms (the ground floor bedroom and the red bedroom) have a 140cm bed, the third (the black and white bedroom) has a 160cm bed that can be separated into 2 80cm beds. The house has two toilets, one on the ground floor, in the bathroom and the other on the 1st floor, the latter, on the landing of the bedrooms, is independent. Bed linen and towels are provided and you will have storage for your belongings as well as soaps, shampoo in the bathrooms.
All the rooms on the ground floor and upstairs have windows or patio doors opening onto the countryside. In the large living room, the 2 large windows offer a magnificent view of Cordes, the valley and nature. From the kitchen and the living room you will access the terrace, on the valley side and a large grass area on the arrival side. The other two rooms on the ground floor, the bedroom and the small living room have direct access to the outside, on the grass side.
You can enjoy life outside in the large grass area (1ha) around the house and on the terrace. A barbecue allows you to prepare summer meals that you can have on one of the garden tables, in front or at the back on the terrace. Sun loungers under the trees grow to idleness but at the end of the small path you will discover many hikes. Unless you prefer to observe birds (including the beautiful orioles, woodpeckers, jays...), hinds or more rarely squirrels and foxes! The starry summer nights are also very beautiful in Puech Haut.
The place is perfect to recharge your batteries and live to the rhythm of nature... without worry... because you will find in Cordes all the essential shops, supermarkets, bakery, butcher, pastry shop, restaurants, petrol pump that will facilitate your stay. PGJyPg
Many walks are possible from Puech Haut or around. They will make you discover the Gaillac vineyards, the Grésigne forest, the Cérou valley, the Tarn, the Aveyron, pretty little villages and superb views.
Nature sports enthusiasts can easily run, hike, cycle but also paraglide (a spot is 200 metres from the house), rent canoes to go on the Aveyron, swim or fish in the Cérou, the Tarn or the Aveyron. If you come with your bikes, you can shelter them in a closed outbuilding.
Le Puech Haut is a good base for visiting the surroundings.
Cordes-sur-Ciel can be reached in a quarter of an hour on foot and in 3 minutes by car.
The city of Albi is half an hour's drive away, its red brick cathedral, its old town and its views of the Tarn, the Toulouse-Lautrec museum, ... are remarkable.
Bastides, hilltop and steep villages, castles, villages by the water, you will discover it all! You will only have to choose, according to your tastes, between Puycelsi, Castelnau-de-Montmiral, Lisle-sur-Tarn, Bruniquel, Najac, Laguépie, Saint-Antonin-Nobleval, ...
Gaillac, 1/2 hour from Puech Haut, is a very pretty little town on the banks of the Tarn, its museum will be a good introduction to discover the Gaillac vineyard and will be able to offer you wine tasting itineraries.
Carmaux, also 1/2 hour from Puech Haut, will take you into a completely different world, that of the coal mines in the footsteps of its famous Deputy, Jean Jaurès, the son of the country.
An unusual place, nearby, will surprise you. The castle-museum of Le Cayla, about ten kilometres away, was where Maurice de Guérin and his sister Eugénie, both writers, grew up. This castle-museum, full of charm, bucolic as can be, will allow you to imagine the country life of the minor nobility of the provinces in the nineteenth century.
About thirty minutes away, you can visit the Abbey of Beaulieu-en-Rouergue. The setting of this Cistercian abbey, remarkably restored by a couple of art lovers, is quite charming, at the mouth of a shady valley. The abbey serves as a setting for a particularly inspired collection of contemporary art. Every summer, a temporary exhibition takes place under the refined vaults of the church.
A little further away...
Villefranche-de-Rouergue, less than 1 hour from Puech Haut, is a pleasant little town, you will enjoy walking through its streets and discovering its original arcaded square.
Montauban, 1 hour away, is also a charming pink brick town where it is good to walk and discover the Ingres museum, which houses an interesting collection.
Castres, the most important town in the south of the Tarn department, is very different from Albi. Here it is the colourful houses on the banks of the Agout and the Goya Museum, recently renovated, housed in a classical period building, that make it attractive.
50 minutes away, the Jardin des Martels, so colourful, so beautiful, so pleasant!
Of course Toulouse is a strong attraction, only 1h15 from Puech Haut, you will discover the "pink city". Walks along the banks of the Garonne, the beautiful Romanesque basilica of Saint-Sernin, the Place du Capitole, the student effervescence, the Musée des Abattoirs, the Halle de la Machine, the Jacobins church with its cloister and its "palm tree", the Pont Neuf, the terraces that overflow into the street, the Cité de l'Espace... and so many other things to see and experience!
In 1h15 by car too, you will be in Rodez, the capital of the Aveyron. In addition to the very special and slightly austere charm of this very typical city, you will discover how "each other, talk, echo each other", one at the top, the other at the bottom of the city, one old, the other contemporary, the two strong elements of Rodez, the pink sandstone cathedral and the Soulages museum in Corton steel. For those who love contemporary art in general and the work of Pierre Soulages in particular, this museum is a marvel!
We can share with you our good plans and our good addresses of markets, restaurants, winegrowers, ... on request. Aperitif at the Saint-Antonin market, gastronomic meal with your feet in the Aveyron, visits to passionate winemakers, local beer at the concert, hair-raising guinguettes, successful initiatives of original restaurants, ...
now it's up to you to enjoy the Puech Haut and spend a moment that we hope will be happy.
