Along the bike path leading from Rimini to Valmarecchia stands a medieval tower dating back to the 14th century.
It was commissioned by a wealthy man from Rimini named Fusso dè Battagli.
Once a watchtower for a large fortified farm, it housed grain and other agricultural products. People would come here to the refuge to bake bread. Today, that no longer happens, but the tower retains its charm as a fortress-like place where one can relax and feel protected.
My husband, our two children, and I lived in this tower for 15 years; it’s a home full of charm and poetry, and we grew very attached to it. We know that at times there may be some aspects that aren’t as comfortable as in a city apartment; for example, the staircase isn’t heated and is cooler than the rest of the property, which has radiant panel heating.
At the entrance to the tower, two steps lead to a spacious kitchen with a vaulted ceiling, from which a door provides easy access to the garden.
Climbing a spiral iron staircase, you reach the landings on each floor through several small doors. First comes the living room, a very bright room with a sofa bed, seven windows, a ceiling with exposed beams, and a large 15th-century fireplace. Continuing up, we find the top three floors, which feature three bedrooms, plus two bathrooms with showers and bathtubs. Two of the bedrooms each have a double bed.
The last bedroom, featuring a French bed and a single bed, is the one from which a few steps lead to the terrace. Here,
from a height of 22 meters, the tower, nestled among the Ghibelline battlements, offers a splendid view of the hills and the sea; we can also see the castles of Verucchio,
, and the Rocca di Santarcangelo di Romagna.
Descending the staircase from the kitchen leads to a bathroom without having to go up to the bedrooms.
An external entrance leads to the basement—a former granary—and a ceramics workshop where pottery wheel classes can be arranged upon request.
You’ll find yourself climbing numerous staircases of various types, which is why, unfortunately, the property is not suitable :( for people with disabilities
