The place has nothing which can qualify as hotel . Location bad , infrastructure nil , cleanliness zero, no service is the only service. How such properties get listed in Hotels.com is a question. I felt like completely cheated by Hotels.com

Good distance from Vik as well as the ferry. We were disappointed that there were no common dining facilities to eat our dinner as the dining room was only open at breakfast if you paid to get their breakfast. No food allowed in the common tv room either. There is a fridge and microwave but not dishware so bring some if you intend to eat your own food. Room and bathrooms are clean and comfortable and the sink in the room was convenient. The hostess was very nice!

Guesthouse Vellir is a hostel that I only ventured into the hallway where my room was. I’m not sure how many rooms, but in my hallway, there were 11 with 2 bathrooms. The room I was in was ok, but definitely not great. The bed was not very comfortable, though better than some I have slept in. The area is fairly quiet, but a bit far from the road. The woman running the hostel is quite nice and very welcoming.

I chose the property because it said breakfast was included and there was a restaurant on the property. There was no breakfast or restaurant. They had an area for it but is was closed down. The walls were thin. I could here the person in the next room snoring all night. Closest town was about 15 to 20 minute drive. The online pictures were a little deceiving.

The guesthouse is surrounded by pure beauty of which we were in awe. The host was so sweet and we felt safe & comfortable during our stay. We were satisfied with our room and felt like it met our needs well. It’s a great place to see the aurora, because there is no light pollution. We would definitely return. Highly recommend!

Great Stay!

Exceeded my expectations, friendly host who waited for us since we arrived 20 minutes passed the end of check out time (call ahead though if you’re running late). We stayed in the room with the private bathroom and bathroom was nice (renovated) and very clean. Would stay here again! Only downside was the breakfast was very expensive per person

This was exactly as described. My sister and I shared a double twin bed room with shared bathroom. We never dealt with unclean bathrooms and showers were readily available despite plenty of other guests. The decor was charming and heart felt and the common space was comfortable and inviting. The surrounding area was gorgeous and we got to see the northern lights in the pitch black of the countryside, just hearing the sheep bleeting at us and ocean waves crashing behind them.

This guesthouse was quite remote from any restaurants. We drove 20 minutes to get our dinner. However, the room was pretty clean and the location was off the main road by about a mile, so it was a quiet place. There is no signage on the main road. We would have missed it without GPS. We declined to purchase breakfast, as the price was quite high. Friendly staff.

Check-in was at 4pm, we arrived at 4:15 to a “closed” sign and no one around. We then drove to the closest town to call, the host answered and told us to come back! The amount of stress we experienced due to the remote location and possibly finding a different “guest house” was not good. We went back and the women at the desk was very nice but lacked any empathy to the inconvenience. We left early to find a particular waterfall and when we return there was a gentlemen who spoke little to no English asking us to leave! Check-out was 11am and we returned to the property at 10am. We quickly showered and left.

We messed up. Booked too late, everything else was sold out, so we ended up here—a $400-a-night hostel. Weird waterfall mural scotch taped to the wall. Prison bathroom with plastic sheets in the corner for the shower. Truck stop industrial toilet paper and soap dispenser. $400. Breakfast? Thirty more bucks. Per person. Not included in the $400. For context, four nights later, we stayed in a suite at the Reykjavik Hilton for less. (full breakfast included.) Iceland is beautiful but getting so little value for so much $ off like this will hurt your soul and diminish your experience. So learn from us: plan ahead. Don't wait until the last minute to book a room or you will end up here and you will be sad and poor.
