We initially had a problem with our TV but this was resolved by a helpful staff member. Food and service in the restaurant was excellent. One small improvement opportunity - check in is at 3pm but Reception wasn’t manned at that time! Not great customer experience…

When we arrived no one was on reception. Our bedroom and bathroom were both very cold and the radiator did not come on ( we were advised that they were looking at the timing). The bath water on the saturday nigh was only tepid. We had a reservation in the restaurant but waited an hour for our main course to be served. The television controls were complicated and no instructions to follow.

Don’t bother

The bed was very hard, so were the pillows. The noise level throughout the night was so much I barely slept. At 2:30am, Tables were being dragged around beneath us. Music was at an excessive level until early hours of the morning. And then around 6am, doors were slamming, people were shouting. Milk sachets in the room said they were in date, but came out lumpy, took 3 attempts to make 1 cup of tea. Breakfast - poor quality bacon and black pudding. Poached eggs were not cooked properly and the whites were still runny.

Traditional town centre hotel

A traditional town centre hotel with large flowing bar and restaurant area on the ground floor. In spite of refurbishment, the limitations of the old building are evident. The windows of the room we were shown to would not open (broken sash cord in one and totally stuck on the other) and no sir conditioning. The replacement room was better with a modern bathroom and a window that opened even if it was in a poor state of repair. Service in the bar and restaurant was friendly and good. Breakfast good. The car park is behind the hotel and difficult to find (get the hotel to give you the postcode for the car park).

Overall OK, but service hit and miss

Its a nice hotel and has a great looking bar and restaurant area. Having stayed here a number of times, it really is hit or miss. My room this time was top floor, low ceiling round the bed and mouldy old shower. Last week was better, different room. Check in is either smooth and great, or this time, rude and painful. Some people here should not work front of house. Overall its ok if a good price, but the Vine up the road (although dated) has friendly staff.
