Guest access *PRIVATE HOT TUB The private hot tub is located just outside the porch and king bedroom and available to the Tumnus guests only at any time during your stay. Do not fill the large bathtub inside- for showers only- the draw on the well system is too great.
Memorial Day is the LAST MONDAY in MAY. Labor Day is the FIRST MONDAY in SEPTEMBER.
*Shared POOL and HOT TUB A short walk from Tumnus House will bring you to a seasonal swimming pool (Memorial Day through Labor Day) and hot tub that is shared by all Cair Paravel Farm residents and guests during the summer. The area is surrounded by a high tensile fence with latching and chained gates. In the interest of safety we ask that the gates remained closed and latched at all times. There is no lifeguard on duty so swimming and tubbing is at your own risk. Please no running, diving, food or glass in the enclosure. Do not add anything to the water in the hot tub such as oils and herbs. They will cloud the water and clog the filters. We then have to empty the tub, clean it and restart it which takes a day. Please note that our honey bees visit the pool to collect water and minerals. They are provided small landing pads and congregate on them.
NATURE TRAIL A well marked two mile trail (moderate) encircles the open pastures and woods around Cair Paravel. We are located close to Shenandoah National Park and you may encounter wildlife similar to that in the park. Please realize that the wildlife can be dangerous and consult the Shenandoah National Park's website for further detailed information.
Other things to note Cair Paravel is a sustainable farm practicing permaculture and applies organic practices to our gardening and animal husbandry. We pasture raise our critters, supplementing their diet with Sunrise Farms soy-free non-GMO feed. The hogs and lambs are processed by a USDA inspected abattoir.
