The receptionist Eilidh was a star! She went over and above with providing amazing customer service by spending ages trying to locate a room we wanted. Well done Eilidh. She is a credit to the hotel.

Really friendly staff. Cool old school to convert to a hotel. Walking distance to good food, shopping and castle. Room was a bit dated but for price and location it was well worth it. The bad reviews don’t reflect the property at all, haters gonna hate.

Just OK

I was surprised at how much the place needed updating. Our carpet had severe wear marks. The people at reception were very nice, but one person was not very well informed. The breakfast was a bit limited.

Booked afternoon tea together with an overnight stay. Tea was poor as the scones were more like rock cakes. When pointed out to the waiter his suggestion that they be put back into the oven seemed strange! Still did not solve problem. On returning to the Hotel at 9.45 in the evening there was no one on the bar and it was covered in debris. Cooked breakfast was fine but cold items were in the main empty and required replenishment. Despite this four staff were doing nothing other than to stand around a fan complaining about their working conditions. An foreign gentleman complained about this on checkout. He was given a card to email the manager!

Love the facade of the hotel, friendly and helpful staff, and the location! The room(especially the bathroom) felt a bit dated, but the room is clean, and we absolutely loved staying at an old highschool from 1854 :)) Would’ve loved using the swimming pool, if I was not so tired from walking all day, exploring all the cool places! It looked great!

The property is lovely and really near everything. Staff were nice, helpful... My only beef was why build an addition & not have a lift to 2nd floor....Breakfast was well laid out & management was receptive to observation that their coffee machine was malfunctioning. I'd stay there again.

Disappointed

Unfortunately our king size bed turned out to be 2 single beds, not identical height, pushed together. Breakfast hardly had anything left 45 minutes before the end of service. All quite disappointing. But staff were friendly and it's a beautiful, old building

Bathrooms need attention.

The staff were lovely and the location of the hotel is great, however the bathroom was in a bad condition. The tiles needed re-grouted as they were black in between. Horrible staining around the bath taps, and there was also a big crack in our bathroom floor which sank if you stood anywhere near it. We were also in a room on the ground floor which was en route to reception/entrance and barely got any sleep due to people back and forth outside our door at all hours.

Converted Victorian school, staffed by students

The team working here lacked nothing in enthusiasm - but sadly lacked capability. The messaging about what were chargeable extras was inconsistent (still no idea if we were charged extra for a cot). The cot they brought had no mattress or even fitted sheet, and when I enquired about it they fixed it by wrapping a grey scratchy blanket around the cot base. Dinner service was very slow. And the bed was a bit like crucifixion. But, they were all very cheerful and friendly, so not a totally unpleasant stay.
