This hotel is wonderful!! We had a view of the sea that we just were in awe of. Very close to everything - shopping, restaurants, transportation, walking distance to most major sights - just down the road from the palace. Their breakfast is incredible! The staff was always friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel to everyone.

Great location

I booked this location based on the location and free breakfast, and it did not disappoint. The location was great- walkable to the palace, boat taxi, and bus line. The Public transportation was great! The breakfast was delicious. My only hold backing was that this hotel has no ac and we were on the 1st floor- so we didn’t get much of a breeze through the windows Otherwise it was a great stay!!!

Staff was really nice a the breakfast was excellent , even offering a vegan plate! The rooms are small and there are no dressers or cabinets so rather challenging to access clothes. No AC and room quite hot. Still, a lovely hotel beautifully located in the center of the old town (2 minutes walk to the ferry to Djurgården, 8 minutes to the T-bana). Would return!

Really enjoyed this hotel. Very charming and very much fit into the whole Gamla Stan vibe. Breakfast was great every day and the staff was very welcoming and helpful. Location was great, not just for walking around, but also easy access to the incredible Stockholm public transit sytem, whether ferry, bus or train. I would definitely stay here again.

This hotel is in the perfect location!! It used to be a home and they converted it to a hotel. It’s a little quirky but that completely adds to its charm. The breakfast is lovely. I’d stay here again, without a doubt.

Great location in Gamla Stan

Great location in old town, right near the waterfront and the Royal palace. Lots of fun shops and restaurants just minutes away. Hotel is a bit of a maze. Good breakfast. Tiny shower but that seems the norm in much of Europe.

Overrated

The hotel’s biggest selling point is its location — nestled in the heart of Gamla Stan, it’s within easy walking distance to many of Stockholm’s main attractions. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. The building is very old, and while charming from the outside, it means cramped, uncomfortable rooms inside. Ours was so small it felt more like a cabin than a hotel room. The layout of the hotel is confusing, more like a labyrinth than a place to relax and it’s easy to get turned around just trying to find your room. Breakfast was crowded and chaotic, with barely enough space to sit, let alone enjoy a quiet morning meal. And to top things off, the front desk staff seemed more interested in reading horoscopes than assisting guests during checkout. We did our research and had high hopes, but sadly, we wouldn’t stay here again.

Great location & breakfast, but mixed experience with staff Hotel Gamla Stan is in a perfect spot—right in the heart of the old town and close to everything you'd want to see in Stockholm. The breakfast was excellent with lots of fresh options and a lovely setting. Rooms were clean and comfortable, and most of the staff were friendly and helpful. However, I did notice some uncomfortable behavior from the breakfast wait staff—interactions with guests seemed noticeably different depending on their background. It felt a bit off, even though the service itself was efficient. Overall, a nice stay in a beautiful area, but I hope the hotel works on making all guests feel equally welcome.

Attic store room sold as deluxe

We booked a deluxe room for 3 adults and was surprised to be sent to an attic that is accessible only by a staircase without railing. The room seems half finished with non-painted walls, largely unusable space due to roof space, beams with wide cracks throughout and carpet with damp patches. Amenities-wise is also half stock. No body lotion, no tissue boxes, no fridge, no towel hooks in bathroom, nowhere to use the water boiler except on the floor. Chairs were right under the pitched roof so they were effectively for decoration only. Only skylights exist, no proper windows. Warehouse accommodation should not be called deluxe. Even with the narrow stairs and knowing we have large suitcases, no help was offered to take our luggage. On complaining that the room is not what I booked, the reception was trying to give the excuse that each room is individually decorated and they cannot show pictures of all rooms. Until I pointed out there is no curtains, a feature of the booked room that she agreed to move us, but only till the next day as they are full. So we have to stay in a warehouse but paid a premium for the night. What a joke. Not recommended. P.S. after the move, we were allocated a normal deluxe room that looked like the photos.
