Not as good as we were expecting

Reminds me of a fading Hollywood star who's still trying to live up to their image from decades ago. The original parts of the building are looking tatty and the 60s outside looks worse. VERY noisy plant room just below our room. Staff are great and the views amazing, but these don't make up for the rest of the experience. 3 star hotel now at best not 4 and it must be so far below it's 5 star hayday.

Room was amazing and really clean location was amazing however a few things really were lacking on our arrival the blonde short haired lady I would guess a manager of sorts ignored us for almost 10 mins when finally acknowledged us my partner said we were there to check in we were met with a very rude not until 3 … I understand check in is at 3 but having spent most of my life in hospitality u should smile and acknowledge guests she did neither very sour faced and rude !!!! No attempt at upselling no apology like I’m sorry the room is not quite ready however we have the bar if u would like a drink or some lunch while u wait nothing like that we had to find it all for ourselves once finding the conservatory was disappointed to see an almost topped stack of papers stapled together although half it the menu as we later realised this was a menu was stapled upside down and the amount of cobwebs around all the window in the conservatory was unnecessary and I can only describe it as dirty this needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency all your staff are amazing with the exception of this 1 lady I would like to make sure the correct blonde haired lady os noted as the 1 wale saw today as we checked out was lovely as it the dark haired lady so we attempted to check in at 1.45 on Friday so hopefully u will be able to see which lady that is I really use lady in the most lose of terms I didn’t want to stay after the way she spoke to us but my partner insisted as it was a birthday supri

Period opulence, but missing the opulence!

The Imperial in Torquay is one of those old school hotels that was for the rich and the wealthy back in the day! Still trying to live off its heritage but this hotel does need some investment. The main reception area and bar areas you can see are being refurbished and having a lot of money spent. The lavish open spaces make you feel like you are living in a dozen mansions for the night! I have to say the hotel rooms are unfortunately not well cleaned. The bed frame I had, was quite old and has stains all over it. The carpets were absolutely vile which looked like they hadn't been replaced in a LONG TIME! I think they need an army of staff to go round the hotel with rug doctors OR just rip up the carpets and try again! The room smelt very stale but not the old kind of stale which you would understand as it was established in 1866! The furniture unfortunately yes was old and some hopefully quite period, I am no expert but my main chair that sits at the desk space was collapsed and broke, luckily has a sitting chair in the bedroom and separate table. The location is very good and just be aware of extra costs at every turn! The gym was in clean and overall good condition and I did use it! The bathroom and bath products were the best bit about the room, although a leaking shower head prompted baths instead which is more to my liking anyway! Breakfast was plentiful and well laid out with a cracking view! Overall I would come again and ask for a modernised room! If available!

We had a lovely stay at the Imperial Hotel. The rooms were clean, the food was good and competitively priced and we had excellent service from all the staff but particularly from Amy who was very helpful and made sure we really enjoyed our time in Torquay.

Thr property looked different as pictures obviously a lot older , no swimming pool in operation looked dirty sun loungers grotty balcony was unclean lovely view from room till you looked down all overgrown and in need of tending badly , needs big refurb patio door could not be locked advised staff but didnt do anything,disappointing really .I think photos shd be upgraded every year as its decieving youre not getting what you see and like in reality you go by what they advertise online . Think all hotels shd have uptodate information whn advertising their properties. Staff were ok housekeeping wasnt great either. Wouldnt go back .

Really lovely stay at the Imperial Torquay. From the outside the hotel understandably looks a bit run down but as soon as you enter the lobby it’s clear that the building has been well looked after and maintained. It’s a beautiful hotel with all the amenities you could ask for… a well stocked bar, nice restaurant, a really good pool and health club and even a billiards room! We had booked a standard double but ended up with what I would refer to as a ‘suite’! Effectively 2 doubled rooms with an adjoining corridor on the 4th floor with wonderful views over the bay. Credit to the cleaning team!

This is a lovely hotel which is in need of a lot of love and attention. The outdoor swimming pool was out of action which we were unaware of until we checked in. Due to maintenance our balcony doors were locked. The outside of the windows throughout the property needed cleaning as did a lot of the stonework. All of the staff we encountered were lovely. The quality of the breakfasts were good apart from the inability of the chef to cook fried eggs properly (all over cooked). We would consider using this hotel again if the price was right.

Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
Disappointed tbh . We paid for a sea view but got mugged off in a garden room , you had to stand up to see a partial sea view , the garden area is overgrown , if the bushes were cut back slightly then everyone in the garden rooms would have a sea view . The outside swimming pool lays derelict & abandoned & the indoor pool is the size of a small garden pond . The whole hotel is tired & needs a substantial refurbishment. The staff were all very nice & friendly. We would not book again or recommend , plenty of other places in Torquay to try.
