When we arrived for our 5-night stay, personal issues only allowed for a 3-night stay. While we clearly understood the hotel's cancellation policy, hotel personnel Nicholas indicated any penalty would be waived at check-out for which we were incredibly thankful, so we proceeded to make our alternate plans. Unfortunately, the night before check-out we were advised we would need to pay for all 5 nights. We contacted Expedia who reached out to the hotel, but the penalty could not be waived as was clearly indicated at check-in by hotel personnel Nicholas. While Nicholas might have not had the authority to waive the penalty, we believe San Benedetto del Tronto Smeraldo should have honored what was conveyed at check-in. This disappointment obviously stained our stay at Smeraldo, making it very difficult to recommend this hotel going forward.
