A beautiful family holiday cottage with lots of character in an idyllic village
Situated in a quieter part of the Lake District with easy access to the south and western Lakes and Solway Coast, this cottage is an ideal family holiday cottage at any time of year with a garden for relaxing in on sunny days and a cosy open fire for winter evenings. The picturesque village of Great Urswick is awash with history from the hill fort to the ancient village church. The village tarn provides the perfect place for lazy days spent picnicking or fishing. Walks over Birkrigg common are accessible from the village and will reward you with panoramic views over the Furness Peninsula, Morecombe Bay and the fells of the nearby Lake District. Just three miles from the village is the traditional market town of Ulverston, famed for its diverse range of festivals throughout the year. The pretty cobbled streets are littered with specialist shops, cosy pubs, traditional markets and cultured hotspots. South Lakes Wild Animal Park is only a short drive from Oronsay, here you can hand feed giraffes and walk amongst wallabies, kangaroos and lemurs.
Oronsay has been delightfully refurbished, blending modern design with the irreplaceable charm of old exposed beams, pretty latched doors and traditional fireplaces. Cosy nights can be spent dining in front of the open fire or in the warmer months enjoy a glass of wine alfresco in the quaint garden.

Great Cottage and Location
Great location for exploring all the Lake District. Internet access was the only challenge but the cottage was clean and well cared for with a well stocked kitchen for cooking. Off the street so very quiet and the hostess sent out a comprehensive list of places to go and things to see. We would definitely stay there again if available.

Relaxing break
This cottage is perfect for a relaxing break or holiday close to the Lakes. Very well maintained with a private and pretty garden. Linen and bedding are a bit tired, perhaps the owners would consider renewing them at some point. Although toilet rolls and handwash were supposed to be supplied, there was none, which we assumed was an oversight. However, I would recommend this accommodation and I would stay tere again if I needed to stay in the area.

Don't stay here
Communication with the host was problematic, frustrating & frankly futile. The host was disorganised, seemingly confusing our booking with another prior to our arrival and failed to update me as promised prior to our arrival. But the biggest issue was that the property was not cleaned prior to our arrival after the last guests left the same day we arrived. You can't contact anyone there as there is no phone signal but the cleaning company arrived the day after we did. I was told by the host the error was the cleaning company's, but it was the hosts response which has been appalling. She acknowledged it was a mistake and that it had happened before and offered to pay compensation to remedy this. Despite this promise she has failed to do so. I would not recommend this place because of our experience, nor would I recommend Vrbo who have been worse than useless in trying to resolve this matter. Both parties lack any integrity and neither care in the slightest about the customer's experience. I will never use Vrbo again, read the reviews out there before booking with them.

Lovely well-equipped cottage
This is a really lovely cottage with the best-equipped kitchen I've seen in a rental place! It was lovely and clean and any problems that arose were quickly dealt with by the owner who swiftly responded via text. It's an old cottage so there are a few little things that are a bit quirky (for example, the old doors and latches can be tricky to get the hang of) but they just lead to its charm and it's been modernised exceptionally well. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting a quiet getaway that is ideally situated for exploring the Southern Lakes. We were attending a Buddhist Festival at the nearby Temple and it was just perfect for us!

cosy cottage in delightful location
We found the cottage to be well equipped, and situated in the heart of a lovely Lakes village location. It also happens to be a stone's throw ( well, not quite - 3.5 miles !) from the Manjushri Buddhist temple which we were attending for their spring festival.
We hope to be back again soon. Also, many thanks for the extensive information pack giving details about the area.

We loved our stay
We had a lovely weekend at this cottage. The beds were very comfortable, and the house had everything we needed. We sat out in the garden and the kids also really enjoyed playing out in the garden. We enjoyed cooking together (first time we used a slow cooker!), sitting around the dining room table having lengthy meals and using the sitting room at night to hang out in. Very conducive to a relaxing break. Excellent value for money. Would definitely book this cottage again. The owner is also very friendly and helpful.

Chilled out three days
We had a lovely stay with our family but there are three issues I'd like to bring to your attention.
Firstly one of the single beds had slats missing on the bed base, this made the mattress sag through the gap during the night (uncomfortable) When my granddaughter first sad on the bed when we arrived she near went straight through it.
Secondly the pillow cases on the bed in the en-suite bedroom smelt on our first night they we clearly not clean pillowcases they smelt of sweaty head and dirty hair, I had to wash them.
Thirdly I think you should forewarn your guest of the noise the macerator toilet makes in the en-suite. It woke us up several times throughout the night.

Delightful homely cottage
We had a relaxing, delightful stay at Oronsay cottage. It had all the creature comforts and made one feel at home. It's situated in a beautiful part of the lakes with good access to the rest of the lakes district
Rachel was a superb host and dealt with a glitch we had with the boiler immediately and generously. Would definitely recommend Oronsay

Quaint country living
Charming cottage in a pleasant village just outside Ulverston. The cottage was very comfortable and accommodated our family of six adults and two children. The amenities at the cottage were great especially in the kitchen which had everything we needed to cook, even a roast dinner. We would definitely consider staying here again. Rachel (the owner) provides lots of local information prior to arrival and answered all of my questions when asked.
