El Capitan is a fun old hotel that is a convenient stop, and they have a good restaurant in house. The hotel rooms are clean, but very small, and while the bathroom is well appointed, it is even smaller! Hotel rooms are in need of some freshening up at this point.

Nice Vintage hotel that needs a service upgrade

The Capitan Hotel came highly recommended so we eagerly looked forward to our stay. The vintage hotel is charming with a cooling fountain in the front courtyard and nice historic architectural features. We had to wait awhile to be checked in. We had requested a queen bed room but were assigned a small double bed room with no explanation. The double bed had a pillowtop mattress that was very uncomfortable for two so we got very little sleep. At dinner, the food was decent (pasta with shrimp and greek salad with grilled chicken). Nice wine list. But service was terrible. It took 2 hours to get through a simple meal. We shared a dessert that they said was pecan bread pudding but it seemed to be a small pile of bread cubes overwhelmed by a quantity of bourbon sauce and a large handful of raw pecans. In short, we dont really recommend it. But if you want to experience the historic ambiance, be sure to be prepared to be specific about your reservation and meal time constraints.

It is the most happening spot. It lives up to the original intentions when the place was built in the 1930's. I even bought my lifetime interagency pass to visit the National parks.

Very comfortable!

We were traveling and looked up reviews on the Hotel El Capitan. It had good reviews and looked charming, so we booked. We didn't get much time to stay as we got in at midnight and were on the road again by 8am.

Comfortable and charming

The room has an old world charm especially the patio. The room is not large but offers all the modern amenities and the bed is extremely comfortable. Cookies, fruit and coffee are a nice welcome touch in the lobby , there are books to read, a puzzle to complete while waiting for companions. The staff is friendly and efficient.

Historical property. The food is second to none! The bar is the most happening place in town. Cocktails are carefully hand-crafted. The liquor is stored in an old bank vault. Too cool to miss.

A great find traveling. Staff friendly, comfortable bed, great linens, the inviting fireplace and the charm of the old hotel were wonderful! Showing wear from previous guests locking their pets in the bathroom and allowing them to scratch the doors and mouldings, also the curtains need repair in the room we stayed in. The restaurant in the hotel was great for dinner! We look forward in our travels to dine there. The complementary breakfast is about the same as most hotels, which was a disappointment this time. The fresh blueberries and coffee were good. Will we stay again for the value, not sure?

The property was beautiful. The room was clean. The staff was pleasant. They had a private party the night we stayed. That made the bar and restaurant unavailable and the parking lot was full so we had to park on the street. These things happen so definitely no a knock on the property. I’d definitely stay again if I were in the area.
