Built in 1906 in classic Swiss villa style, the house has been carefully renovated while preserving its original character. Known as “Vårsol,” it once served as a children’s home established by The Salvation Army in the early 1920s. The building holds a unique place in local history, including its role during World War II when staff safely evacuated children from wartime danger.
Today, the house remains an important cultural landmark in Vardø, offering guests a rare opportunity to stay in a place rich with history and atmosphere. The second floor is entirely private for guests. The owners live on the first floor and may occasionally be seen in the main entrance. The house cat uses its own cat doors and may also be spotted briefly in the entrance area, but it does not stay in the guest space.
