Check in to your accommodation in Vung Tau, grab your sunnies and hit the beach! Try your hand at kite-surfing or just soak up the sun. Walk out to Hon Ba Island at low tide to check out Mieu Bau Temple—just keep an eye on the tides (unless you plan on spending the night)! Later, shake things up with a hike up one of the local mountains. Hike up Small Mountain to see the Vung Tau Lighthouse and a 28-metre Jesus statue, reminiscent of Rio de Janeiro's famous Christ the Redeemer. You can even ascend the statue to view the Vung Tau panorama from Jesus's shoulders—not bad, right? In the evening, check out the local bar scene and rub shoulders with oil rig workers, Russian expats and other intriguing characters. Want to see more of the nearby big city? Our Ho Chi Minh City hotels are waiting for you.
Cruise in to Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN), Vietnam's largest international airport, which is located in Ho Chi Minh City, just 95 kilometres away. Reserve yourself a spot on one of the charter buses that travel directly to Vung Tau from the airport or rent a motorbike if you're feeling adventurous. Vung Tau itself is small enough to get most places on foot, but you can also catch a ride from one of the local professional motorbike drivers (just make sure they have an extra helmet for you, or you could be fined).
