Would have been fine - without the junk fee

We stayed one night at Arlo DC to be close to an event. We had requested a quiet room away from the elevators and were placed directly next to them. Fortunately, the staff moved us upon request. That said, I’m really disappointed by the hotel’s mandatory “urban fee.” We didn’t use most of the amenities it supposedly covers—like the pool, gym, or bikes—and the fee wasn’t presented as optional. Essentials like WiFi and drinking water are included at nearly every hotel, and access to a pool or gym is typically part of the standard rate as well. The $15 food and beverage credit per day doesn’t make up for it—it just makes guests feel obligated to spend more money on-site rather than free to explore whatever option make them happy. Sleep was peaceful, but beyond that nothing felt particularly special. I don’t think we’d book here again. I recommend travelers consider whether these types of fees are worth it before booking, and if they find them to be misleading or excessive, report them to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to help promote more fair practices.
