I wish hotel reviews offered separate star ratings for the room, staff, amenities, and more. My fiancé and I visited Winchester, VA for the very first time this past October, and we truly enjoy exploring new places.
The room itself was very nice and clean, with daily cleaning service available if needed. The housekeeping staff were kind and attentive, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, our experience at the front desk was disappointing. We did not feel a warm or welcoming atmosphere—no smiles, no friendly faces. At times, it felt as though we were not wanted there, possibly because of the color of our skin. We also encountered some guests who were not friendly, which added to the discomfort.
Breakfast was another area that fell short. The selection was limited, and on our second morning, the staff member overseeing breakfast stood silently beside me while I was preparing bagels for myself and my fiancé. Instead of simply saying “excuse me,” she just waited and stared until I finished, only then moving to replenish items. The lack of courtesy felt rude and unnecessary.
On a brighter note, we explored Old Town Winchester, which was absolutely charming. The town is beautiful, the people we met there were friendly, and I captured some wonderful photos. Visiting the “Big 🍎” was a highlight—it was such a fun experience. Next time, we would definitely choose to stay in Old Town itself.
