Rydges Melbourne is a classic, and for good reason. Both business and leisure travelers will love the convenient location and stylish rooms, and its five events spaces (including the cool, retro-themed Bobby McGee’s) are perfect for celebrations and conferences. Make sure you check out the rooftop pool, ’cause who could say no to a dip with a view?
Bargain pick – $
Just a 10-minute walk from Bourke Street, Causeway 353 offers great value for money right in the heart of the city. It’s tucked away on Little Collins Street – one of those famous, funky laneways – which means easy access to flat whites, smashed avo, and super luxe shopping. It’s perfect for when you’d rather save your hotel budget for retail therapy.
If you’re traveling alone or thinking about roughing it at a backpackers, you’ve gotta check out the Pensione Hotel. For 90 bucks a night, a Matchbox Room is an adorable little steal (although at 9m square the name is no exaggeration), while the more spacious Courtyard Rooms have a real New York vibe. Awesomely located just 400m from Crown Casino!

A budget-friendly Melbourne stay with an awesome gym, gorgeous indoor pool, and in-room childcare? Yes, please! The Best Western Atlantis is great for families, and within easy strolling distance of Etihad Stadium and the Queen Victoria Market. And just 500m from Southern Cross Station, it’s super convenient for regional and interstate rail trips (including the famous Ghan, Overland, and Indian Pacific).
