Amalfi Coast Holiday Packages

Set against a backdrop of mountains and vibrant blue seas, an Amalfi Coast holiday provides a picturesque escape. A visit to this coastal region on Italy's Sorrento Peninsula can provide just the relaxation—or adventure—that you need.

Things to Do on the Amalfi Coast

Amalfi Coast holidays are best experienced with one of Wotif’s Amalfi car hire options, so you can feel the wind in your hair and refreshing sea air in your lungs. Cruising between charming cliffside villages and lush hiking trails promises nonstop, unforgettable beauty.

The journey begins in Salerno before weaving through the hills to Ravello. This village's main draws are the lush gardens and panoramic views of the Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo. Villa Cimbrone was once a favourite retreat of Virginia Woolf, Winston Churchill, and Salvador Dalí—so it’s bound to be a surreal experience.

Zipping south along the coastline, you'll be greeted by Amalfi's striking Cathedral, its bell tower visible from the harbour. While you're here, visit the paper museum, housed in Europe's oldest paper mill. (Trust us, stationary has never been more interesting!) Later, drive 4 km west of town to row through the stalagmites and glowing green waters of the otherworldly Grotta dello Smeraldo.

Next stop on the trail is Positano. This seaside town's colourful church, the Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta, is most certainly worth a visit. You might even catch a joyous wedding celebration there before returning to the quaint streets and beaches.

The journey culminates in Sorrento, home to the only Gothic church on the Sorrento Peninsula. For a peek into the history of Sorrento's famous intarsio furniture, visit the Museo Bottega della Tarsis Lignea. Finish the day with a walk along the Marina Grande, soaking up the charming vibe before getting “hooked” on the area’s fresh seafood.

Shopping, Dining & Nightlife

Shoppers will love perusing small shops for local artisan goods, including beautiful stationery from Amalfi and colourful ceramics from Vietri sul Mare. And when life gives the Amalfi Coast lemons, the locals make…limoncello! With lemon groves around every corner, shoppers would be remiss to return home without a bottle.

Lemons are a significant part of the region's cuisine, too, with lemon-laced ricotta ravioli just one mouthwatering example. Of course, coastal cuisine is swimming in fresh seafood, including shrimp, redfish, octopus, mollusks and more. Even sea urchins are tantalising when prepared with Italian culinary flair. Pucker up and finish your meal with delizie al limone, sponge cakes stuffed with lemon cream.

Revelling in your meal could end up being the nightlife in itself. If you're booking one of our Amalfi Coast packages, bear in mind that the small town nightlife is predictably quiet, although Positano can offer a swinging nightclub scene. Classical music lovers will have more luck, particularly during summer, when Ravello and Sorrento both host classical music festivals.

What's Next?

If you're ready to hit the road, you'll find Wotif has the perfect Amalfi Coast holiday packages to get you there. Best yet, our affordable Amalfi Coast holiday deals will leave you with ample funds for exploring more of Italy's charms, perhaps heading north with entrancing Verona packages.
