What a great hotel. My first time in China, I decided to pay a little more for a week long stay, and I don’t regret it one bit. It’s in the heart of the embassy district, a short tube, bus or taxi ride from any major attraction. It’s surrounded by shops, places to grab a bite - western or eastern - transit, and parks. I could walk to the pick up point to my day trip to the Jinshaling Great Wall. Amazing! My room was actually a suite, with a loft bed, kitchenette, and private bathroom. Drinking water is available at the kitchen sink, though if bottled is your thing, bottles appear daily. A shaving was promptly brought to my room, there was plenty of hot water, and the 5th floor complimentary washer and dryer were easy to navigate. Though a cold limited my use of the top floor gym, it’s spectacular. Plenty of space, free weights, and assorted resistance and cardio machines. The dedicated yoga room was a bonus, a perfect place to stretch out and focus. Even if hotel gym isn’t your thing, check out the view, or give the pool a go. Breakfast is generally a non-negotiable for me, and Fortuna’s doesn’t disappoint. Plenty of cereals, great coffee, pastries, salads, fresh fruit and vegetables, good and hot dishes, including a dedicated won ton station. Whether in the breakfast room or at the front desk or in maintenance, the staff seemed determined to make your stay a pleasant one. Pity about the internet, but that’s China, not the hotel. Download Alipay and you’ll be set. Go!
