The room we were allocated had a bathroom door that didn’t close. It was obvious that attempts had been made to plane something off the bottom of the door, the wood was splintered. The hinges however had several coats of paint on them, so the door had been there some time. I found this situation unacceptable especially for a 4 star hotel. The room should be out of use until the door is fixed. We told management when we went to breakfast and was told that maintenance had been contacted. On our return from our day in Chester about 4 pm , nothing had been done. We had to say this was unacceptable and after about 90 minutes we were finally offered a n alternative room. This was in the Kings part of the hotel and was quite a walk which as a disabled persons I was unable to manage. Eventually we were given an alternative which was fine, however my husband had to move all our belongings. We had a very comfortable night and went out for the day. When we returned about 5.30 our room hadn’t been serviced. My husband went down to reception to report this and spoke to a manager, a very nice gentleman came and made the bed with a clean sheet. The manager agreed our experience had not been great and gave us a discount. About 30 minutes later my husband went to make a coffee and this hadn’t been replenished. He went down to reception again and somebody came along to replenish the coffee etc and changed the towels. Overall this was a very disappointing experience.

Ok, but won't be staying there again.

The room was spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable. The Carpark was awkward and overcrowded and overcharged us. The hotel could not rectify this. The room had nowhere to hang dresses. The coat hooks behind the door had been taken down leaving holes in the wall.

We just needed a room for the night. We thought the accomodations were great (although the tub stop wouldn't work). However, we were awaken in the morning by a loud alarm. We never did figure out what it was for.

Propery easily accessible from train station and to nearby cavities shopping restaurants etc Booked four rooms for a group the other three parties all got upgraded rooms with snacks except me who ended up in ground floor room with room above noisy and people walking around until early hours

Rooms are a good size and in good condition. Hotel is bright and airy. Convenient location - across road from station and a short walk (15mins?) into town. Some noise from outside if windows are open, but not enough to be disruptive or annoying. My only request would be for shower door to be fixed closer to bath tub so that the bathroom didn’t end up soaked every time I took a shower!

York to Chester

We were not in the hotel long but our room was lovely and clean nice view over city too. Temperature in room was perfect. Staff were great, very helpful. Breakfast was ok, nice to have a veggie sausage all ready and available. The couple we came with had an issue with thrir room(some irritating noise), and could not move due to capacity. They got little sleep, which was a shame - compensated by 20% money back. If i need to be picky, some of the communal areas were a little grubby, missing some attention to detail. Eg, threadbare carpet on the stairs in the additional building, and there is a beautiful lantern in the stairwell outside the lifts, which could look so much better if it had a clean inside dust and dead flies - they my only gripes. Good price for what it was tbf. Enjoyed our weekend and great proximity to station. Ventured to Liverpool for a day, trains every 15 mins. Had a fab time overall.
