Historical Villa bordering the sea coast in the Natural Reserve of Monte Cofano
Villa for 4 to 12 people with air condition with 5 bedrooms, 3 kitchens, 1 large living room with fireplace, 4 bathrooms, terraces and garden, sea and sunset view, and natural reserve surroundings. Sea Coast of the bay of Cornino borders the property at 5' walking distance from the House.
Please note that the rental price varies depending on the number of guests.
This is a charming traditional historical villa in Sicily, on 9 acres on the protected Nature Reserve of Monte Cofano. The House has been renovated and has 3 independent areas: The main area has a large living and a big fireplace, kitchen, 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. There are also 2 separated studio apartments with 1 bedroom, 1 kitchenette and bathrooms.
Please note: It is given in exclusive use of the villa only when it is rented by a minimum of 7 people. If the number is lower, the use of the villa is limited to the main house, and leaving free a separate studio apartment where it could be rented by another 2 guests.
Our old farm is a typical inner courtyards known as “baglio” are scattered across the area, testifying to its old agricultural roots. There is an ancient firewood furnace to make bread and cook traditional Sicilian meals. The entire house offers sea view. All the rooms have their own independent entrance. The geographical location of Baglio delle Gazze makes it an ideal starting point for day trips to numerous places of interest in western Sicily. The villa is situated close to restaurants, services, supermarkets or several resorts and tourist monuments. And you can park inside the fence.
The Area. The area of this beautiful province, has one of the most beautiful seas of western Sicily. The closest town is Custonaci: a farming town located in the Trapani province; Endowed with a beautiful, unspoiled shore, Custonaci is an attractive destination for summer tourists. Particularly attractive are the seaside resorts of Cornino and Cala Buguto, the former being a lovely fishing village overshadowed by the Cofano Mount. From the coast, a trail facing the mount, winds its way past the 1500’s Torre di San Giovanni di Cofano and the Piana di Frassino-Tuono.
How to reach Baglio delle Gazze: From Palermo take the route A29 Palermo-Trapani: leave the motorway at the Castellamare del Golfo exit. SS187 then following signs to Trapani and turn on SP16 to the city of Custonaci, then proceed in the direction of Baia di Cornino and once arrived at the sea-front of the bay turn right on the last battered road going through the mountain, Baglio delle Gazze is the last house on the left side of this battered road. Google Earth: 38° 05' 55' N // 12° 39' 49' E
Day Trips: Numerous walks, offering a various scenery, can be found along the coastline: the wide, sandy beach of San Vito, ‘Lo Zingaro' National Park , with its stunning bays of crystal-clear water, the amazing pinnacles of rock (Faraglioni) at Scopello, the Marsala Lagoon. In perfect harmony with this abundance of unspoiled nature there are traces of human life: the ancient tuna factories, salt works, water mills and old harbour sites, which are evidence of the strong ties with this rich and beautiful land. In no time a tall you can visit a host of unforgettable places. However, we will try to give you some advice about those places which are absolutely 'not to be missed'. Archaeological sites: Selinunte the largest Greek colony in Western Sicily; Segesta is an Elima town with its Doric temple and magnificent theatre. The island of Mothia is one of the most important Phoenician towns; the medieval town of Erice. The archipelago of the Egadi Island is magnificent.

The property was very clean. It has four large bedrooms and one small double in a separate little house in the garden. There was air-conditioning in all bedrooms and in the large living room. The host provided great information , including names of restaurants nearby, and there was exceptional support from the housekeeper Teresa and her husband Franci. The veranda outside the garden house provided beautiful views of the Bay of Cornino and the hilltop town of Erice beyond. The kitchen was well equiped, with kettle, toaster among the items supplied, although we felt that there was a lack of cupboard space in which to store groceries. The sink had a narrow drain which needed careful maintenance. The sea was 350 metres away where the beach was rocky, but there was a sandy stretch about 700 metres from the house where swim shoes were not needed. The harbour about 1.3 km away provided a great place to swim when the sea was a little rough. And it has a nice coffee shop/restaurant. We had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday.

Our family of six (2 adults, 3 teens, and a 5 yo) loved our stay here! The location was perfect for us being away from a major city but being able to drive and see sites and explore west Sicily. Easy walk to the bay and sea. We enjoyed being outside (the property grounds are beautiful) and spent time playing cards, visiting, eating outside, and just relaxing. No words to describe the inside… it was stunning and the pictures provided in the listing were accurate (but don’t it justice). We all had plenty of room and were fairly comfortable. It was a perfect spot for us.Side note: the mosquitos at dusk could be pesky, but we knew this in advance and came prepared. Grocery stores, restaurants, coffee shops were all close and easily accessible. Highly recommend going to see the sights provided in the listing by Aldo as they were all enjoyable. We especially loved Erice. We would definitely stay here again and hope to return.Side note: I didn’t take many pictures inside but have included some of the outside views.

Beautiful house, stunning location
The house was perfect for a group of friends. Gorgeous, well appointed kitchen, comfortable bedrooms and excellent showers. The location is amazing, right next to the mountain (which was excellent for running and hiking) and overlooking the sea, we couldn’t have imagined

A little slice of heaven!
This villa is exceptional in every way, the location is breathtaking as the villa is beside a giant rock and the beach is also not far away. It’s incredibly private and secluded and just such a gem of a house.
The check in was so special as we were very late due to a flight delay and we were greeted with patience and we felt welcomed immediately. There was fresh food left and amenities, in fact every detail had been thought of.
I cannot recommend this villa enough, just such a great base to see the little towns in the area, its an oasis for relaxing, eating and being in a Sicilian village.

September in Custonaci/Cornino
Phenomenal setting to base your Western Sicily stay. Spacious and functional, classic Baguio gives you easy access by car to Erice, Trapani, San Vito Lo Capo, Segesta, etc. Kitchen has everything for home cooking and stores are close by. Right inside the Monte Casanova nature preserve, you can get on the beautiful hike from the back yard! We used the pizza oven and enjoyed the phenomenal sunsets every night. Easy walk down to the beach and into the small town of Cornino’s beaches, bars and restaurants. Mrs Theresa, was very prompt to answer our questions and Aldo, the owner, was flexible and accommodating. Don’t miss this one!!

Week in Cornino
Our stay at the house below Mount Cofano was beautiful. It’s the last house on a street right up from the sea, with trails around the mountain in the backyard. Every night the sun sets over the sea behind the house. It’s a 5 minute walk to the water and another 15 minutes to the small town of Cornino. The area is best for spending time with your friends or family by the sea or cooking at home - there is not much in the town and it takes about 35 minutes to drive to the closest larger town.
The house was beautiful and fairly comfortable. There is AC in every room and a nice kitchen to cook in- also beautiful outdoor tables and grills. We had some problems getting hot water for the first few days of our stay but the host Aldo and his wonderful house manager tried to solve it every day and were communicative.

Lovely garden
We throughly enjoyed the outdoors.. We ate all our meals on the patios under a roof of purple bougainvillea with jasmin growing on a nearby tree.
Native plants were all over with pots of blooming plants bursting in color were everywhere. Through the trees we could see the Mediterranean. The beach was but a short walk away.

A gem of absolute beauty
The house and location are absolutely stunning and unique. The building was beautifully restored maintaining many of the original traits, but making it comforting with every needed amenity.
It’s very spacious, but also cozy. Any “imperfection”, normal with an old building, doesn’t diminish in any way the experience.
The outdoors are even more gorgeous, you could sit for hours in the garden admiring the view of the sea and the mountains.
I even used the wood fire oven which has been a wonderful experience.
Go there, take a deep breath and respect the beauty of it all!

Charming, rustic seaside home
We were here in Nov., which is not your usual tourist time. We loved the tranquility of the area in the off-season and would love to return in the summer. The home was charming but rustic. We wish we had better weather to be able to enjoy the amazing outside yard, eating area and view. Everything was clean and as full of charm as described, but it is rustic and takes some flexibility from the guest. Water pressure was not ideal, but we were able to manage. Teresa and her husband were very responsive to any questions we had. We would love to return to this home and area again.

Rustic beauty and historic magic!
What a truly remarkable place to stay! It was like stepping into life 200 years ago and while ancient, everything worked! The vies of the ocean and bay on one side and the rugged mountains on the other were breathtaking! The grounds and gardens were gorgeous and all the fresh lemons you could hope for. Teresa , Franco and their daughter Ali communicated everything and responded immediately to our questions and needs. They were so helpful and kind! For a unique experience, I highly recommend! Be ready for rustic and open to see the mastery in this building and it’s grounds!

Charming rustic home that was very well equipped except there was no airconditioning and supplied with only one fan - would not recommend staying here during June-August.
