The place is super well kept. The staff is amazing always friendly. Food was perfect. The rooms did have a distinct sewer type smell I did change rooms and the second room was not as bad but still was there it comes from the toilet I’m sure. The roads to get there are awful get ready for that drive. Everything is far rent a car.

We had our family of four at Riu Palace Costa Rica for Spring Break. The property was very clean, staff was wonderful, and the dining options were top-notch for an all-inclusive resort. We had a wonderful time and will likely return.

Staff here are very pleasant and accommodating. There are dogs around… very friendly. I loved that there are a lot of pools so chairs are not too much of a problem. It was windy while we were there so leaves in pool but not bad. The staff are constantly cleaning. That being said, there is a septic odor in bathroom but we got used to it. The rooms are nicely kept. The buffets have a lot to choose from and the food is fabulous. The road to the resort needs a lot of attention. A walk down the beach finds you visiting wild monkeys that will take grapes out of your hand & a bar called Monkey Bar.

The first room we had smelled like a sewer. The hotel offered a bottle of wine at an all inclusive hotel as a solution to the bad smell. Wine was not a solution. The second room had weak water pressure, one day there was no hot water.

there is no way that this resort should be rated this high. Let’s start with the good. Pool and entertainment (shows/activities as pool) excellent! Terrible cleanliness, outlets didn’t work, mold, cracked glass in shower, front desk upon arrival lack of welcome and details, restaurant service was excellent but no one shares the process or procedures as the best restaurant(steakhouse) has time slots that full up every night. Spa service was amazing but outdated and need to clarify age limits to services. Sunset cruise excellent when not crowded not was told could be up to 100 people.

Dance club shows are just outside room drinks running around yelling at 3 am! Wait staff very noisy in the halls all hours. Restaurants terrible food and people sat at tables for 3 hours making it un available for others. Hard to get transportation or impossible. Watered down drinks and the room smell like poop all the time. Some staff so friendly and others don’t want you there. Don’t go here if you want to sleep at all! So things work in the room and some don’t. Had to go to the front desk everyday for a new key, and my pockets were empty!!

In general the resort is calm and very relaxing. Food is average. Drinks are amazing. Very poor quality in live music. They have to change up the schedule of events(same thing everyday). We booked the suite with the jacuzzi outside which is pricey! Since day one, the TV remote did not work to change channels. I called the reception and two maintenance workers came to the room and said they couldn’t fix the issue and had to wait for the next day to change the entire TV. The only way to turn the TV off was to unplug it from the power. They never changed the TV so the entire stay we were stuck to one channel and had to unplug and replug the TV in. On the second day of our stay around 3 AM there was water leaking from the ceiling where the single jacuzzi is in the room. Water all over the floor, it was a mess! I called reception again and all they provided was towels and said maintenance would come in around 8am to fix issue. So we were un able to sleep since 3 AM. Besides that everything else was okay. Housekeeping is amazing and so is the minibar service.

Beach and pools are great. Food is fine. Staff is solid. Room was very musty smelling and in need of update (grout). Ants appeared but front desk responded promptly but then we had the chemical odor combined with musty smell. We were there 7 years ago and couldn’t wait to go back. If they claim a renovation we’d consider returning. Grounds are really nice and well maintained.

Was there 3 days, contracted an infection that went through bloodstream, extremes pain, vomiting, swelling, unable to walk etc. still in hospital trying to get well enough to fly home…hotel had zero empathy other than doctors who called ambulance…in fact, manager at front desk tried to have my husband sign a waiver that says hotel is not responsible & tried to bribe him with cash? Disgusting would never go back & will be sure to tell everyone we know

Fourth visit to this resort, last time was 5 years ago. Excellent service & staff! Some managers remembered us from prior years, that really meant something! Still prefer the buffet to the restaurants. Reception staff kind and accommodating. Two negative things, one was the trash and glasses/plates left around the resort for days, and the trash on the beach, second thing was the lax attitude regarding (lack of) clothes at the dinning places and people smoking right outside of the entrances or vaping indoor (not in designated areas). An adult only option would be nice since children were running around and screaming constantly and hanging out in "adult" areas. Overall appreciate the CR people and beautiful surroundings. Pura Vida!
