Things to Do in Genoa

Drop off your bags at your accommodation in Genoa and head over to the Old City, a medieval maze of twisting caruggi (narrow streets) and one of the largest historical centres in Europe. Check out the neat striped facade of San Lorenzo Cathedral, which is nearly a thousand years old. It narrowly escaped destruction during a WWII bombing. (Spoiler alert: The bomb failed to detonate and still sits inside the cathedral today.) Admire the architecture of the historic Palazzo Reale, which now houses the National Museum; the Musee di Strada Nuova is another great stop for art lovers. In the afternoon, take a walk along the Corso Italia, the city's lovely promenade, over to the Boccadasse, a colourful fishing village with stunning views. Be sure to arrive in time for sunset!

Getting To & Around Genoa

Touch down at Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport (GOA), about 10 km west of the city; you can hop on the Volabus shuttle to the downtown area, or hire a taxi.
