First of all, all rooms in the hotel are within a few yards of the Pacific Ocean. No need for fans or white noise generators; you fall asleep to the sound of actual waves crashing against the seawall right in front of the hotel. There is no phone or TV, but good wifi. The room is simple, and unpretentious. It looks like a classic 1950s hotel, but with the kind of upgrades that make the most sense (new floor, bathroom door, and shower enclosure). The bed is comfortable and the room decor is dominated by sliding glass doors the full width of the room. You can watch the waves from the bed and just beyond the seawall is a school of bright yellow Tangs. It's as if Hawaii is a beautiful picture of a tropical paradise and the Kona Tiki Hotel is a simple, elegant frame around it. Highly recommended.
