The room was in dire need of renovation and the aircon didn't work that well. It also smelt of weed when we first entered. My fiancee didn't enjoy being there over Christmas. That said, it was a great price and good position, right on the beach and a good base to travel to and from. Parking was easy and it has laundry facilities. The staff were super friendly and you could use their coral safe sunscreen if needed. I think the other rooms in the opposite side of the hotel were probably a lot nicer than ours. This was probably my fault as i booked the room in just my name a year earlier, if both our names had been on the reservation we may have had a better room. If I had been on my own I would have been fine, as I was only using it to sleep as I enjoyed Kauai.

Our oceanfront room on the 1st floor is absolutely amazing. The double sliding door opens to the beautiful lawn that leads to the beach. We were able to see the breathtaking sunrise the ocean waves from our bed. There are lots of chickens running around in the area. They don't bother you at all except that they do love to sing for the guests to make sure you wake up in time to see the sunrise. ;) Also since its 1st floor, you can expect some sand on the carpet that is not completely cleaned. We walked in and out through the sliding doors to the beach all the time, so it didn't bother us.

The staff was amazing and the location incredible however, the actual resort itself is a little outdated and could use with a few improvement the bathrooms. Would definitely go back and really appreciated the small refrigerator and microwave in the unit and loved the powerful AC.

Building is very old. Needs updating. Mattress on the bed was not very comfortable. The room could have been cleaner. There is no hot tub. Only a pool.

The Hotel Coral Reef was exactly what I was hunting for. It was family owned and operated. Grandma made fresh banana bread almost every morning - on the day that she didn't she explained to my wife that the bananas weren't ripe enough. Alisha was on the desk most days. She always took the time to listen to an 80 year old guest and made recommendations accordingly. This will probably be our last trip to Kauai and the Hotel Coral Reef made it a wonderful experience.
