Convenient but busy location

The hotel was nice and convenient to public transportation. However, the area of Kyoto was very busy and industrial.

Not ideal for business travelers who have to work

The room was okay and clean overall, (the bathroom was very clean) but it was somewhat smelly. Also, the window could not be opened to air out the room. Also, the chair at the desk was incredibly uncomfortable. For a business traveler who has to spend some time working at the desk in the room this was a deal breaker. I would not recommend it for business travelers.

Great value

The accomodation was great, for the price we paid we had a clean room with all the amenities we needed. The location was perfect because it was near all the good spots in kyoto. Overall i reccomend this plac for a trip in kyoto.

Great central location!

Very central location. Literally a block in one direction for the busy sleek newer looking streets and an easy walk, bus, or taxi to historic areas. There is a bus station and taxi stand a block away. Definitely a small room but nothing unexpected for metro areas. Laundry and vending machine downstairs next to the smoking room and bathrooms. Take advantage of the luggage shipping available. I shipped 3 bags for $54 usd to Tokyo! Be sure to search specifically for Karasuma as there are multiple hotel M locations very close to each other and Google maps picks up on a different location by default as of right now.

This was the only hotel on my six week Japan trip where the reception staff didn't seem that welcoming or helpful. They were ok but didn't seem that interested and tended to ignore me as I came and went, and when I asked a couple of questions (in basic Japanese and in English) they didn't seem very well trained. Room was good, very clean, bed fairly comfortable, air con worked well. You can leave luggage on your checkout day by attaching it with a bicycle-type lock to a bar in the lobby where it sits out all day until you come back for it. I didn't like the combined faucet/shower arrangement in the bathroom, the shower worked fine but the knob was awkward to use for the tap faucet and the pressure tended to jet water out when you just wanted to brush your teeth. Location is excellent, just off a main shopping street and literally around the corner from Karasuma station and a bus stop.
