Hotel was exceptional with very warm staff members who make you feel at home, to a traditional, old school Japan that we craved for, to a very delicious traditional Japanese breakfast! Matsui Honkan is our first experience at Ryokan. It was a fantastic stay. The staff were supper friendly. The served breakfast and dinner were not only delicious but also looked great in the presentation. The location of the property is excellent. Nishiki Market, Kawaramachi Street, Pontocho Alley are all within minutes of walking distance. I would recommend anyone who would like to experience a traditional Japanese Ryokan.

Basic ryokan situated in the heart of Kyoto, perfect location with lots around. However, the room was not the cleanest. We found a messy, unfolded duvet thrown in the closet and a few strands of hair in the bedding. Assuming the duvet was used by the previous guest and not folded by housekeeping after guests checked out.
