This was our first time in a ryokan, and we really enjoyed it. We found the staff very helpful. Their English was excellent, which was helpful, since our Japanese is limited. We only ate one Japanese breakfast in the hotel, but it was tasty. It was a great location, convenient to many places of interest.

All the staff were very friendly, helpful and thoughtful. Our room smelt bad but we didn't want to complain because we thought the smell would disappear but it didn't . Our children's room was fine though.

It's a very traditional looking hotel inside and I loved the decor. Breakfast was delicious and you have a choice between a traditional Japanese breakfast or American. Wuite delicious. The staff and environment were lovely. We were invited to relax and enjoy a cup of tea before checking in while the staff assisted other guests. The entire lobby and sitting areas instantly promote a sense of calm and serenity. Unfortunately for us, we didn’t realize we should have arrived earlier in order to reserve a time in the bath. We were disappointed about this but that was our “rookie” mistake. The room was clean and quaint. We enjoyed the use of the yukata provided and the futons and bedding were very comfortable. The duvets and sheet coverings were so soft and fluffy. Thank you for a real treat of this Japanese ryokan experience!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this traditional ryokan. We opted for the tatami mats which were extremely comfortable and provided an authentic experience. All of the staff were so helpful and attentive, the Japanese breakfast was delicious, and we really enjoyed the selection of drinks at the in-house bar. If you stay here, I’d recommend taking advantage of the activities offered by the hotel - we took part in a traditional tea ceremony and loved it! The lady who ran this was so lovely and made this experience one of the highlights of our trip. The location was also fantastic; we were within walking distance of so many great shops, restaurants and things to do. If I had one tiny gripe, it would be that the air conditioning unit in the room was a bit noisy and might bother you if you’re a light sleeper. That being said, this is vastly outweighed by the many other pros to staying here. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anybody looking for a traditional stay in a lovely part of Kyoto!
