There are two different facilities on the property, the original establishment and the newly renovated. Just make sure you understand which building you will be at as there is a huge difference of amenities and comfort. I give 5 stars on the newly renovated vs. 2 stars in the old.

Property was a mix, half ghetto, half updated and nicely taken cared of. I booked a non view expecting it to point to the back of the parking lot, however, it was basically pointing down a hallway to which people can possibly look in if you left a slit open. Staff was there, no complaints. As for noise, you can hear almost everything happening above you and nearby, so if you’re not a sound sleeper like me, you’ll have a hard time if people (or kids) get rowdy. As for the view and surroundings: 2 minute walk to the stink of death. Aka sea lions and seals sleeping on rocks etc, if you’re not used to bad smells, you will not like that, although they’re cute to look at, you’ll have to get past the fact that it smells like fishy death. Surroundings I have absolutely no complaints, beautiful views, lots of food and shopping places nearby within a 5-10 minute walk. And a ton of ledges to peak over and check out. Overall, staying here wasn’t that bad? Call it a cheap getaway and book it, you’ll like what’s around. I give it a 3 star because of the catfish view, just wanted a bit of sunlight not a hallway. Anyway I recommend the area but if you’re not booking ocean view don’t bother complaining cause I warned ya.

I accidentally booked this hotel on Expedia. It was $512 which was just about all the cash in my account. In a panic I called the hotel and told them how dire my financial situation was and how I could not afford the room - they viciously told me they’re “sorry” it’s a prepaid booking and refunds are “strictly prohibited.” I called Expedia and explained the accidental booking. They were very concerned for me and said that they’d absolutely go to bat for me to cancel this expensive hotel that I cannot afford. Expedia did try and were met with the same roadblock. This is greed in its finest form. Shame.

We stayed here on a family vacation during spring break. I called ahead of time and knew our room was on the old side of the building. We had a suite with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living area , dining area and a small kitchen with a mini fridge and microwave. The size of the room was the reason i booked it, with plenty of room for us to spread out we had 2 balconies, directly across from the pool and had access to a covered parking garage. Plenty of restaurants, shopping, and sights to see within walking distance. My only complaints was that our room slept 6 people, but was not furnished for 6. There was 1 pull out couch, a bench and a couple chairs on the patio and around the table, the outlets in both bathrooms were not working, and the lighting was bare minimum in the dining area. Luckily, we werent there to sit on our room and had an amazing time. If we go back to LaJolla, i would stay here again!

We stayed in the renovated side of the hotel (Pines). The room was very nice and the ocean view was amazing. Lots of dining options without walking distance and treat shops for the kids. The hotel pool/hot tub was a little hard to find and seemed to be shared with nearby condos but still nice and relaxing. I would recommend staying only if you're going to stay in the renovated side. There is a definite difference between the two... and it's evident even from looking at the hotel from outside. Overall pleased and will return.
