Our stay at The SHAKESPEAR HOTEL recently Shortly after our arrival, we notified the front desk about several issues concerning the condition of our room. We also reported a recurring unpleasant odor today, which was particularly strong this morning and prevented us from opening the window. Upon closer inspection after finally opening the window, we believe the smell originates from a sewer vent pipe situated directly next to our window. On our arrival day, we also brought a cigarette burn hole in the window curtain and missing paint on the wall to the reception's attention. Additionally, there are cigarette burn marks on the bedside table. We have also experienced problems with the television. The remote control is largely unresponsive, requiring significant pressure on the buttons to operate. Furthermore, the volume button frequently changes the channel, and the screen picture often pixelates. While the room is equipped with a kettle for making tea, the vanity basin is too small to fill it conveniently. Additionally, the kettle is quite loud when in use. The bar fridge is placed on the floor due to the lack of a designated bar area, which necessitates kneeling to access it. The floor in the room also slopes noticeably, and the website pictures of the room are misleading. I tried to upload photos for this review but the Wotif system eont accept my uploads Terrible Lastly, we have observed construction work at the front of the hotel on most days, including the erect

Property in a great location to jump on the tube which made it very convenient. Room was pretty small for a group of three. You could hear the tube but it didn’t affect our sleep at all. Would recommend this property.

I love staying here so much. Everything looked so vintage. I loved the architect. My only issue was the bed; It was a little too rigid. Loved how convenient we close it was to Paddington Station, and the variety of restaurants around.

83 stairs from street to room, no elevator. Gray water only in the room, no drinking water. Sound of water running most of the night from pipes. Staff were good. Didn't expect much for the price and wasn't disappointed.

The most aggressively 2 star hotel review. I arrived at around 4pm, and was greeted by someone who clearly didn’t want to be there but fine, no problem, we all hate our jobs. Upon entering the room the first thing that hit you was the smell. Incredibly musty and just a little gross. It was also stiflingly hot so I opened the window, only to realise that the curtains weren’t long enough and left a gap for the outside world to peer in so lacked privacy. I had to make a barricade out of towels to stop light from the street lights right outside and to block the view. The water from the taps was not drinkable, had a “non-potable” sticker next to it, a little insane to not have drinking water in a hotel room in 2025. The bed was pretty comfy, although there was some mysterious pubic-looking hairs on the duvet which was a little disconcerting so I didn’t feel hugely comfortable. The ONLY good thing about this hotel was that it was close to Paddington.

I was in a room on the 2nd or 3rd floor... like floor 2 plus! Had to negotiate luggage through doors and up 3 flights of stairs!!! 6) No lift or elevator! Awful shoebox of a room...never, never ever again! Thank you!

It’s in a good safe area and the staff was friendly and the hotel felt safe. But the rooms definitely needed an update. They clean the rooms every day, but the corners and walls were all quite dirty from years of overuse. The breakfast was very good. The rooms are crazy small. But I think that’s what you get in London.

Very noisy. Tubes run below building and whole room shook every few minutes. Our room was tiny. Two single beds with barely enough room to stand between them. Suitcases had to go under our beds. Shower room was up a deep step in the corner and rather smelly from drains. Only 1 seat - no room for a second. Whole hotel was very tired. Beds, despite being very narrow were comfortable though. Easy access to Paddington station.

Location within easy walking distance of Paddington Station (Heatrow Express terminus) was a big sell for me. It's also a nice, virant neighbourhood with a small park across the street. Breakfast buffet included with my room was also good.

Three stars? I think not.

I’m surprised that the Shakespeare Hotel has a three-star rating. I was on the top (4th) floor. The stairs up from the second floor were dangerous - narrow, steep, shallow, and with lousy handrails on one set and no handrails on the other two. My room was clean but tiny. The bathroom could not have been smaller and, though there was hot water, the water pressure was very low, barely enough to take a shower in the tiny, slippery shower stall. And the faucet water wasn’t potable. Breakfast (in the basement) was inadequate. I tried to get a cup of black coffee from the hot-beverage machine; the closest it could come was a watery cappuccino. The scrambled eggs weren’t quite scrambled and the cereal selection was poor. Except for the man that checked me in, the staff was friendly.
