I stayed five nights at Hotel Riu Plaza España and it was a very disappointing experience. I had stayed before with my family and always liked it, but this was my first time alone and it will be my last. When I arrived, the room was clearly not cleaned properly: the bathroom had hair everywhere, visible dirt, and trash still in the bin from a previous guest. I called to report it, waited too long, and had to go downstairs myself. Since the hotel was full, they said the only option was to send someone to clean. The first person who came seemed annoyed and spent only a few minutes “cleaning,” and the bathroom was still dirty afterwards. I had to go back a second time, and another person was sent. By then I felt uncomfortable having to repeatedly allow people into my room for something that should have been correct from the start. My privacy was affected just to receive a basic standard of cleanliness. What disappointed me the most was the lack of proactivity and empathy: no real apology, no follow-up, and no courtesy gesture. I work in customer service, so I know how situations like this should be handled to maintain trust, and this was not it. Unfortunately, I can no longer recommend this hotel after this experience.

Staff very courteous, room clean and quiet, rain shower is spectacular, and breakfast is delicious (one of the best I ever had). My only suggestion for future guests is not to rent a car if you’re going to visit Madrid. The streets are not easy to drive, you can end up with an accident or a fine and in this hotel the parking is very, very small, not suitable for vans or SUV’s.
