Lacking Empathy and Refusing Support During a Family Medical Crisis
We were traveling to this hotel to stay the night before my mother-in-law’s cancer surgery when we received the devastating news that her procedure had been canceled at the last minute. I had booked a non-refundable room through Expedia, but I immediately contacted them and explained the situation. I even offered to provide medical documentation.
We were not asking for a refund. We simply hoped to rebook the same room type for the following week, as the surgery had already been rescheduled. Expedia made every effort to advocate for us, but the manager at this Holiday Inn Express refused to assist in any way—no date change, no flexibility, no understanding.
During an already emotional and stressful time, this lack of compassion was incredibly disheartening. I am sharing this experience in hopes of receiving a response and, more importantly, encouraging better support for families facing medical emergencies.
