La Playa Hotel in Carmel is truly our favorite place to stay. Nothing else compares. From the moment you arrive, you feel wrapped in a level of warmth and sophistication that only La Playa delivers. The hotel effortlessly blends luxury with historic charm, creating an atmosphere that feels both timeless and elevated. Breakfast here is unforgettable. The spread is incredible, and the salmon caper hash browns are absolutely to die for, one of the best dishes we have ever had anywhere. Enjoying it all with ocean views has become one of our favorite traditions. The staff is consistently on point as well: attentive, professional, friendly, and always a step ahead in making sure every detail of your stay is perfect. If you are looking for a place where luxury meets historic sophistication, where every stay feels special and every moment feels relaxed, La Playa is it.

Our stay was beautiful! The hotel is stunning, with a friendly and attentive staff, eager to make your stay a happy one. The buffet breakfast with omelette and waffle station was fabulous. The hotel is an historical building so the rooms and bathrooms maintain the original footprint and size, which prohibited any enlargement of the very small bathroom. But given all the other perks La Playa offers we survived the small space and would definitely return.

Very expensive for mini-sized room ($1200). We reserved a room with an ocean view and if you stand in the exactly right spot and crane your head—you may see a bit of the ocean. Over-priced and under delivered. Plus—extremely limited parking (good luck finding a spot).

Property is quite nice good location and good bones. Restaurant is nice. Food was great. Service at restaurant was great. Front Desk did not honor my reservation. Said it did not exist and was very difficult. Said call Expedia and figure it out. Had to really escalate to just even stay there.

Free but not easy

This is a lovely hotel, with the most attentive staff. Rooms and common areas are very well appointed and relaxing. The door to our room didn’t close tightly which was odd. Free parking and breakfast were included, except an expresso at breakfast was chargeable ($10) and there was a $60 ‘amenity’ charge added to the bill. These mixed messages put a cloud over an otherwise exceptional stay.

La Playa Hotel Carmel

The hotel was quiet, clean and very close to the water. It’s an easy walk to downtown, to the water and shopping. The brunch they offer is amazing! Wonderful selection of fresh food!

The amenities are well worth the fee. Loved the wine in the afternoons and cookies in the evening. Transportation to and from the downtown area was perfect since the are many hills in the area. The champagne breakfast was excellent - only suggestion would be to have protein available as stand alone item. If you want bacon or sausage it’s only available in the form of a breakfast burrito or omelette.
