Staff are working hard and took care of the problems. All the problems were the real problem and they are understaffed and clearly not supported by their GM and management above the local management. Surprised at how disappointing the stay was.

Desk clerk made me feel like i was going to steal something. Not welcoming. Tag on bottle of water said i would be charged $13 if the cap were removed. In that exact language. There has to be a better way to make a guest feel welcome, rather than please don't steel from us. I was told i would be charged $80 for a robe that died not exist in my room?

The hotel is affordable and offers amenities. The bed was comfortable. Renovated nicely with color and nice decor. The only complaint are the blinds and the headboard needed to be dusted off, maybe the room was vacant for awhile.

This was our second stay here. The staff was great. The room was fine. It has a lot of street noise. The bed comfortable but had a dip in the middle.

Lovely Hotel

Lovely hotel. We were very comfortable.The only reason I rated it 4 stars was due to the parking situation. If you don't want to pay $50 per night for valet parking, your only choice is street parking. We were lucky it was a Sunday night so I'm sure not as challenging as it could be.

Interesting old hotel in great condition. Good-sized room for an old hotel, but room layout was awkward. Front desk staff was helpful, housekeeping not so much. Good location for public transit. Rough neighborhood and very noisy at night.

It was a chic hotel, but i was surprised and disappointed that the sink was not cleaned. There was toothpaste in it that had not been cleaned.

Hotel room was beautiful and staff were super kind. Really enjoyed for our stay in Portland. Only note: there is a shelter across the street, which leads to some mentally unstable folks sitting outside while they are waiting for beds and such and they can get loud. Lobby locks after 10 or 11 and none of them seemed actually threatening, so safety not really a concern, but just be prepared for the surrounding area and noise, the windows don’t block a lot of noise.

There are so many reasons not to stay here, but let's start with the hotel's greeting. I got there less than an hour before check-in. Although the room was ready, the woman at the front desk insisted that an early check-in is $50/hour. Yep! She insisted. So I waited 50 minutes in the lobby with her watching me the whole time until exactly 2:58pm when she finally said that I could check in. I emailed the General Manager about this policy, and he admitted, "These fees come from either the brand or upper level management and are rarely, if ever, imposed by the property manager." --Note that he said, rarely imposed. He went on to say, "It is often a challenge to address some of the “grey” areas with members of our staff, especially when they might be somewhat inexperienced." Clearly, they hire "somewhat inexperienced" staff and don't train them well. So what about the room? On the surface they've redone a really old building to look rustic and modern, but that comes with some compromises... .like old wood floors with nail heads sticking out, skinning my wife's bare foot. Then there's the bathroom that has a shower and a toilet but NO SINK!! So, you do your business, flush, then you have to open the bathroom door and walk around to the kitchen area to wash your hands? How unsanitary! Also, the hotel staff didn't bother to check whether the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were filled. At least in my room, they weren't. More issues but not enough space. See pics.

The bench in front of the bed also included a giant bonus stain.
More stains on the bedspread. Guess they don't wash or replace anything.
As mentioned, the only sink is in the kitchen area. There's none in the bathroom, so that bathroom door is going to be unsanitary, for sure.
