Arrived to an overly fragrant lobby that was a little nauseating. The elevator also had a musky, foul smell. The room faced the street and the street noise woke us at all hours of the night. We inquired about switching rooms but weren’t accommodated. There were nails protruding from the floorboards in the hotel room that I stepped on and had to place a shoe over to cover to prevent further pain. Housekeeping never came to our room over four days to tidy up, except to mysteriously remove one black face cloth from the sink and not replace it. Disappointing experience overall.

The room was clean. The bed was way too low to the floor but it was comfortable for sleeping. There were no dressers or drawers for clothing. There were five hangers in a space that is no more than a cupboard. The room was adequate but overpriced considering the lack of amenities. The staff members were pleasant.

The hotel is a neat old building that has been updated nicely. The location is a bit sketchy, but convenient in an up and coming area. Valet, secured parking is a bonus. The main thing that I did not like is that the lobby is horribly fragrant, and the room is too. I'm not sure if there is fragrance coming out of the heating unit or what, but I couldn't find the source anywhere. It made my stay uncomfortable.

My Stay

The building is charming, built in the late 1800's and the décor was fun and creative. The staff was very friendly and regularly stayed in contact with me via text prior to check-in, which I appreciated. The bed was comfortable but the room was cold and I couldn't get it to sufficiently warm up. The heating unit didn't seem to really heat the room and the windows are single paned so I could feel cold air coming through. The coldness would have been more tolerable had I had a warm blanket - down or wool - but only a thin cotton blanket was provided. Also, the bathroom sink drained very slowly and I let the front desk know this. I believe these are new owners, so they are working out the bugs and I have know doubt that they will.
