We liked the location overlooking the Shotover river, front gardens, the reception with the stunning fireplace, view from the dining room, good size rooms and big comfy bed. Coming in through the front entrance there was dirt all over the floor and dying flowers in the vase. Keeping that looking fresh and clean would have made a better first impression.

Restaurant was the best part of our stay although the pudding was very disappointing. Staff were lovely but house keeping seemed to lack in professionalism as dirty washing bags were lying around. Spa facilities such as swimming pool and hot tub were gorgeous but the pool was freezing. Would have liked for the pool to be heated so it was enjoyable to swim in. Our bedroom was VERY rundown! Definitely a let down. Has great potential if it was to get refurbished.

There are great views for the River View rooms. The rooms are large and comfortable, but a little tired in places. The price reflects that in my opinion and I would happily book a river view room any time again. Probably the biggest selling point is the free use of their generously sized spa facilities which include a sauna, steam room, pool and a hot tub, all with river and valley views. The restaurant food is nice and the aspect and views of the dining area are great. But unfortunately the interior is tired and has a cold, budget feel. It doesn't inspire to sit down and relax. But there are many good restaurants only 10 minutes drive away, so it doesn't really matter.

The restaurant meals were delish..both Dinner and Breakie. The facilities at the Hotel were excellent and relaxing.. Downside for us was.. when you were away from your room for 3-4hrs and came back it was freezing cold as heating had gone off... Overall an enjoyable stay and would return in the future...

What a beautiful, grand hotel - it harks back to an earlier era of luxury with its quiet sophistication and fine touches. The views are worth a million dollars alone. It is quietly situated and has a luxe feel. We were upgraded from a garden view room to a beautiful suite which looked straight out to Cecil Peak through the valley. The spa/gym/pool areas were extremely clean and tranquil, and the spa/pool are decorated in Roman-Grecian style. Our bathroom facilities were spacious with his/hers showers and similarly decorated in marble. The only slight criticism is that the cleaners left the pillows/cushions off the bed when making it and there were champagne corks/debris left by a previous occupant around the spa tub on the deck. The decor is sumptuous and I love how they have inter-mixed roman-grecian style with rustic wooden touches in the spa/pool and dining room/lounge. It's a charming nod to its Central Otago location. There are a few spots that could do with a little upkeep (a torn stair-carpet here, some paint patching there) but otherwise this is an exceptional hotel.
