Good Service, But Not Quite the 5-Star Experience

I recently stayed at the Taj Campton in San Francisco, and while there were some positive aspects, my experience didn't fully align with expectations for a five-star hotel. On the bright side, the staff was friendly and professional, with special recognition to the doorman, who provided exceptional service. The rooms were spotless and well-maintained, which was appreciated. However, despite the cleanliness, the rooms felt somewhat dated and would benefit from an upgrade, especially for a hotel of this caliber. Unfortunately, there were a few disappointing elements. I was caught off guard by unexpected fees that I feel should have been included in the room rate—things like Wi-Fi, coffee pods in the bedrooms, and other services that I’d expect to be covered at a luxury hotel. The most frustrating part, however, came in the morning when I asked about the pastries included in the fees. To my surprise, there were no pastries available at all, and I had an unpleasant interaction with a staff member who was less than accommodating about it. Additionally, the "city view" from the room turned out to be just a view of the building next door—certainly not the skyline I had imagined. For the price, I expected a more scenic outlook, especially given the location. In the end, while the Taj Campton has a friendly staff and maintains a clean environment, the extra fees, outdated rooms, and lack of available amenities make it difficult to justify the cost. A major disappointment. It was a great hotel, but now very marginal but yet with a very high cost. The restaurant, which was a coveted location, is no expense but the food terrible . No room amenities of any kind. A real disappointment and we will not be back.
