Amazing building, but a run down hotel...

Amazing old building, with a original grand staircase, lots of history. But the hotel is run down, with some interesting policies. Only 2 pillows on the bed, I have nasal condition, I ask for not get an extra pillow, but they would not supply me with any. So I had to go out and buy some... I've never in my life had to do that. Staff were OK, but do to a lot of international staff members it was a struggle communicating sometimes. I would not recommend this hotel, I would never stay there again...

Overnight stay

An overnight stay at this rather grand hotel( at least in its hey day). Though in need of a refurb it was very good value for money, it’s not the ritz but we had a sea view, clean bedroom and en-suite . Fabulous communal sitting areas, reasonably priced drinks. If I’m being picky, the lifts smelled very damp and foisty.Reception staff/ waiting staff very helpful despite seeming to be overworked.

Grand but in need of some TLC

The Grand is an old hotel with very grand foyer the room I stayed in was basic, creaky floors and the bathroom could have done with some deep cleaning and some repairs. But for what I paid, i can't really complain. Id use the hotel again.

The room we were given had the lock broke, while we were out they repaired it but unfortunately lost the key . Our clothes etc.. were locked in the room so they broke the door again so we could retrieve them. When we asked the reception how long it would take to get another room her answer was how long is a ball of string!!! Finally got a room after 6pm it was for one person not 2 and was made up foe one person. No tea coffee facilities worked. Absolutely dreadful to say it was a treat away for one night for my birthday. No apology nothing!!the key! Leaving us witho

Love the Grand for its history and grandeur. Everything was great except the plumbing. Ours was fine but every time the room above flushed the loo or ran a tap which was frequent throughout the night, it sounded like a waterfall in the panel above our door. Very noisy. Otherwise no complaints.

Cheap night away

For the money we paid you could not grumble. It is very dated in the rooms and once you move away from the beautiful entrance area which is a shame. even the welcome letter felt formal and very authoritarian. We did have the breakfast and the room has gorgeous views over the sea but again menu very dated, ok if you simply wanted a fry up. Yes we would stay again if we were simply up for the night as a couple and would only be sleeping in the room. We wouldn’t eat there again though

A lovely hotel full of beautiful architecture and history. Good customer service too! However, the room that i stayed in wasn’t that clean. The bathroom had white stains on the floor and hair in the shower. There was also no towel provided.
