Hotel with great history.
This hotel has so much amazing history. Really find it hard to believe that the current owners need to rename it ! And such an inappropriate name too.
The bedroom are very tired.
The bedrooms need a massive overhaul and bringing tastefully uptodate.
The garden nearest the hotel are ok but the gardens and paths down to the 'castle' like area need attention as they could be beautiful.
This hotel has the potential to be amazing just hope owners make the best of it.
The staff were all very pleasant. Service was good. Drinks were expensive. Breakfast was very good.
Treated like second class due to wedding taking over the common areas and dining room

After a long days walk on the Cleveland Way, we went down for dinner at 7pm, our food was served at 8:45pm. They had a big table booked in and were understaffed. We were ignored and were left sitting there for nearly 2 hours. My worst restaurant experience as far as service goes - ever! When it finally arrived the food was good. We were quite simply the unimportant guests…
I LOVED this hotel. I’m a world touring cyclist and I love quiet and remote. This hotel was FANTASTIC.
Idyllic setting high above the bay. Beautiful grounds. Lovely gardens. Stunning.
The hotel just had a makeover and it looks beautiful!
My room overlooked the sea—clean and comfortable and a great bathtub!
Breakfast was plentiful and high quality.
A dreamy stop as I pedal the UK.
Many, many thanks!

This was out third visit here but first under new ownership. Now more of a wedding venue, including the panoramic restaurant which used to be a highlight. New dining room small and dark with uncomfortable benches to sit on so we only ate breakfast there and went out for our other meals. Building work ongoing and our room overlooked a builder's area so quite noisy and the corridor and overhead was noisy at night. The location of the hotel is fabulous as always and the gardens have been revamped but we won't be returning now.
Overall a good hotel with regards to cleanliness, excellent breakfast fantastic location

Average stay
Stayed years ago and sadly not the place it used to be. Room was clean albeit it needed a bit of attention to detail, evening meal was quite expensive for what we had, seem to be the guy behind the bar was doing most of the serving and the breakfast was buffet style and was pretty basic. Got woken up by some noise from a joiner fixing a door before 7am. On check out at 9am we hoped to have a walk around the grounds only to be told we couldn’t as there was a wedding on later! I think this hotel is gearing up to be a wedding venue but it really needs to improve on various aspects to guests staying at the hotel. Sadly won’t be returning.
Because of the fab views of Robin Hoods bay. I took a punt and booked into this old hotel. From walking through the door I was blown away by how the communal areas have been modernised. Even though the staff were obviously busy, I suggest they quickly learn to be a little friendlier/ warm to guests (they weren't bad, just not engaging).
Unique location with stunning views on Robin Hoods bay. The room was spacious and very clean. The bed large and very comfortable. The staff very friendly and dinner was varied and very good quality
The Hotel grounds are stunning and there is a gorgeous view across Robin Hoods Bay. The room we stayed in was dog friendly but a bit dated although it was nice and clean. The mattress was a bit soft for our liking but the rest of the room was fine for a one night stay. The walks you can do from the hotel are amazing so loved the location.

Beautiful place
A lot of building work going on so somewhat noisy and dusty and beautiful panorama restaurant out of use these are the bad points but the good points are the staff especially Ben our server has n the restaurant who was excellent as was the food we love this place and the views are amazing we will certainly be back yet again to see how it is when the renovations are complete
Not very informative. No information as to meal times, Wi-Fi etc. Thought there might be a hotel information brochure in the room, but nothing. Did book for dinner, asked if we could just have a table in the bar and a bar meal. Was told it was the same menu so could go in the restaurant or the bar. The restaurant we found wasn’t actually open, so it was the bar anyway and same for breakfast. Overcharged twice for meals and drinks £30 extra on tab over 2 days when we had already paid for some of the drinks. Took 3 days to actually sort it out and get it refunded as they said the system locks them out. Nice hotel and surrounding area for walks. Good meals. Didn’t get some of the breakfast items we ordered, plus wrong drinks. Relatively quiet whist we were there so if it was busier maybe staff need to be a bit more attentive in what they are doing.
