Holidays To Stuttgart

Getaways to Germany are always sure to include plenty of beer, pretzels and museums, but a holiday in Stuttgart adds a few more perks you can’t find anywhere else: fast cars, stud gardens and an international vibe. But wait, what’s a stud garden? You’ll just have to visit to find out (or read on below).

Things to Do in Stuttgart

Ready to ring in the new and old? Stuttgart’s got both, right in the centre of town. Start with the most important building: the Old Castle. In the 10th century, the city was famous for having the best horses around, and built the castle to protect the “stud garden” where the horses were kept—see a similarity with the city’s name? It also houses the Wurttemberg State Museum, sure to be the “crown jewel” of your Stuttgart holiday. The New Castle, an 18th-century Baroque masterpiece, is just a few steps away. Take a tour and imagine the level of royal-ness it takes to demand "proper residence which is convenable to his royal dignity”, as Duke Wurttemberg did.

Prefer your museums modern and turbo-charged? Visit the Porsche Museum in the carmaker’s headquarters in northern Stuttgart to see the model 911, one of the most expensive Porsches in history. You can even drive one—for a price, of course! If you want your own set of wheels, check out Wotif’s sweet Stuttgart car rental options, and you can keep the car, at least for your trip.

Shopping, Dining & Nightlife

If all those castles have you itching to shop like a king, Stuttgart holidays have you covered. The Koenigstrasse, literally “the street of kings”, is centre stage for everything from department stores and upscale brands to speciality kitchenware shops—plus plenty of cafes to refuel with coffee and blatterteig (puff pastry). Germans actually drink more coffee than beer, so they know what they’re doing in this department.

By now you probably need more than puff pastries to fill your belly. There are plenty of dining options on Koenigstrasse, but travellers in the know (or those who just want to avoid the crowds) will head south to Marktplatz for a traditional meal in the rathaus (town hall). You finally get to order wiener schnitzel (keep a straight face)! For something a little different, book a Stuttgart package deal in Bohnenviertel (awesome translation: the Bean Quarter) and have a meal in the city’s oldest restaurant.

Germans may drink coffee more than beer, but they still love a good brew (of course, real beer fans will want to check out Munich holiday packages during Oktoberfest—or spend a few nights there any time of year!) Start your night with an icy cold pint as you contemplate your next move. Head to Marktplatz for beat-pumping, disco ball-spinning nightclubs, or take on a pub crawl with the locals in Bohnenviertel (bet they can out-drink you!).

What’s Next?

We’re not saying you should skip Hamburg and Berlin…but you could. You can still have it all thanks to Wotif’s awesome packages to Stuttgart. Book today and see what the real Germany is all about.

The hotel had two towers. We stayed in the second tower connected by a long underground tunnel. Which meant getting to the room took a long time. When our jet cars stopped working it made the trip to the front desk and back a bit annoying. Friendly staff. The gym was lacking in every way imaginable. ...

Great location, not the best for business
Great hotel with wonderful staff. They have been doing renovations for years and it's still a bit dated. The elevator frequently had issues resulting in long waits.
