This a review for the APA Hotel Shinjuku Kabukicho Chuo only. My overall impression is that this hotel has a wonderful, caring staff and is clean, tidy and a good option for a typical tiny room, budget hotel in Kabukicho.
A couple small issues that should be mentioned are that the central air/heat can not be manipulated for your personal liking. If it’s Winter you get heat, if it’s Summer you get cool, which sounds good until it’s not. I personally like a cool hotel room all the time. Turning off the heat fan made the room stuffy. Turning it on, even with the thermostat at 16 Celsius, the room got uncomfortably hot. The lack of control is an issue for me. The wonderful front desk staff kindly offered me a circular fan.
There is no in-room safe. I like locking up my passport, extra credit cards and small cameras. It’s just a peace of mind thing. Again, the front desk staff offered to lock up stuff for me, but I personally feel this is an inconvenience and a process that I don’t want to bother with.
The hotel does not have a self service laundry. The front desk directed me to a coin op laundry a 5 minute walk away. Not a great option to walk through Kabukicho with a bag of dirty clothes. Not great.
There is only one elevator. Stay on an upper floor (there are 15) for a quieter room, but beware you’ll need to be patient at times! You’ll wait for that elevator as it stops an almost every floor. It’s a very bad design flaw in my opinion.
