The property has kept it's pre depression style which is cool. The bed was comfy and good hot water in the bathroom. I did find that hallway noise was easily heard in my room. Ate in the restarant and cafe for dinners and the food was yum.

Chateau Tongariro is a majestic hotel located between Mt Ruapehu and Mt Ngarahoe. Close to the ski fields in Whakapapa Village its a magnificent building boasting everything you'd expect in a european ski resort. The restaurant provided delicious meals and the staff were very accommodating and friendly. I was a little disappointed in the lack of a mini bar or facilities in the room. I did love the big bath tub though and the hotel facilities (plunge pool, sauna, movie theatre and piano lounge all added to the incredible ambience of this little gem. Loved it and happy to recommend Chateau Tongariro as a fabulous place to stay.

Food was exquisite. Room was very nice and comfortable, apart from the bathroom which was dated - well-worn plastic toilet seat and chipped bath? It's a shame to see this iconic hotel needing an injection of cash. Public rooms also seemed a bit 'unloved'.

The place needs updating. Bathroom is old. Heating is awful...too hot and have to open all the windows then it switches off and your cold. Breakfast is not enjoyable. Not worth the price at all. Don’t expect help with your luggage if a tour bus arrives either.

Dear Roha, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and staying at Chateau Tongariro. We would like to state that we are in the process of negotiations with our owners for the renovations being a heritage building does come with its challenges and heating being one of them it will be addressed. It is unfortunate that we were not able to provide you that welcome and wow factor and our services fell short of a wonderful time which most of our guests have raved about. I will be personally addressing this with the teams and look forward to welcoming you again in near future. Sincerely, Executive Assistant Manager

great location to the mountain however, bored staff, average food, restaurants close early and are overpriced which is a shame as it could be an amazing place.
