On the outskirts of York but has regular transport links into the city centre. Had great breakfast options during the week but the weekend buffet is slightly less impressive but adequate. Staff were polite, friendly and helpful. Room was clean and of a decent size. There’s some eateries within a two minute walk - highly recommend the nearby sandwich shop. Would definitely staff here again.

I stayed for four nights in early Oct. The hotel is a former Georgian house with a small 1990s extension built favourably to match the original house which has once been the home of James Bond composer John Barry. There are three courtyards, the centre yard having the appearance of an old farm yard, cobbled stones and many bushes and trees. I stayed in the Scarborough Room, a pleasant and spotless room with comfortable bed, coffee table and chairs and a desk with TV and hot drinks facilities. The bathroom was ample however shower head could benefit from replacement. The water was always very hot. The hotel ground floor benefits from a large reading room (with vibes of Downton 😄) and two reasonably sized dining rooms, both of a pleasant and classy decor. There is also a bar lounge area which also doubles as a breakfast room. The decor however reminds me of a late 80s/early 90s wine bar. Pleasant but perhaps worthy of update. The breakfast options are very good, ranging from cereal, to full English and other quality cooked items. Although my intention was not to eat in every night, I soon changed my mind after the first evening meal which was superb. I choose Chicken Supreme which was fantastic, as were all other meals. There is however a 7.5 per cent discretionary service charge. The staff are very smart, polite, welcoming and a credit to the hotel. Would I stay again? Definitely

Very dated. Shower hose kept coming off so water would sprout everywhere!! Awful trying to have a shower & hold the hose on!! Husband got stuck in the bathroom, I had to push & then kick the door to open it from the outside!! I reported this when we checked out & was told maintenance would look at it! Wouldn’t stay here again!!

Room was clean and well equipped. Staff were excellent, especially Nick at the bar. Didn't try the restaurant. Hotel generally was clean and well looked after and the grounds are pleasant. In a nice area with good transport into the city, although this is walkable. Only downside was the "nominal" fee for parking was £15 per night.

Room had huge cobwebs in every corner. Very dusty. Toilet was very finicky to flush if we got it to at all. Room was also freezing. The window was open when we got in and the heat was not turned on. When we mentioned this in the morning the front desk brushed us off saying the heat hasn’t been turned on yet as it will get warm again next week. We froze all night long! Awful sleep on narrow beds with flat pillows in the cold.
