We stayed at the Candler Hotel in room ##07. The room was clean, and the water was consistently hot, which we appreciated. We also saw room ##05 and noted that it was significantly smaller than ##07, so room size may vary depending on what you’re assigned.
In room ##07, there was a strange clunking noise that we couldn’t quite identify, along with repeated thumping sounds that seemed like they were coming from the pipes. We brought a white noise machine, so the sounds didn’t bother us much at night, but it’s worth noting for light sleepers.
The staff was very friendly and responsive. Maintenance promptly replaced a chair after one of the legs broke, which we appreciated. Valet service was also friendly and professional.
There wasn’t much desk space for working, which could be a drawback if you need to work from the room. That said, the hotel itself is historic and has a beautiful, older high-end feel that adds a lot of charm to the stay.
One thing to be aware of is the immediate area around the hotel. We wouldn’t recommend venturing downhill nearby, as there were a number of transient individuals in that area. However, we did feel safe returning late at night—the streets were well lit, and we noticed patrol cars nearby.
Overall, a charming historic hotel with friendly staff and comfortable rooms, with a few quirks to keep in mind.
