Dongguan Holiday Packages

What do you get when you combine thousands of years of history, outstanding surroundings and heaps of new shopping areas to explore? You get Dongguan, one of the Guangdong province’s largest cities.

Whether you’ve come here to try your hand at its thousands of eateries or just want to quietly reflect at one of its public gardens, tourists embarking on Dongguan holidays will find a city with sumptuous sights and some serious shopping opportunities.

Things to do in Dongguan

After landing at nearby Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) and catching a bus into town, book one of Wotif’s Dongguan car hire options and get ready to see what the city has to offer. There are four famous landscape gardens in Dongguan, the best of which is arguably Keyuan Garden, a half-acre site studded with ancient architecture, manicured trees and carefully arranged flowers. Located just 15 km outside of the city proper, the Yinxian Resort boasts rollercoasters for the kiddos as well as beautiful mountain landscapes, acrobatic performances and religious iconography. Dongguan has the third-highest concentration of hot springs in China, so there are plenty of places to go if you'd like a good soak. Also, Dongguan packages provide plenty of opportunities for history buffs. The Opium War Museum and the Humen Naval Battle Museum (which is shaped like a massive warship) delve into the area's rich past.

Shopping, Dining & Nightlife

Shopping is where a holiday in Dongguan shines. Almost every area of the city is stuffed with shopping centres, some of them offering local goods. The Humen section is home to over 1,000 clothiers, and many of them sell the same garments you'll find in Hong Kong for only a fraction of their price. Head over to the Global Plaza in the middle of Dongcheng District if you want electronics. Nancheng Fumin Commercial Pedestrian Street has a little of everything, including well-known American and European brands.

Like many large Chinese cities, Dongguan contains numerous migrant workers who have introduced foods from all over the country. Street vendors who sling kebabs and egg waffles set up shop at Zhenhua Road and Guangming Market. You can find authentic Shanghai and Cantonese cuisine in Dongcheng District. Houjie Street offers local treats such as lai fen (thick rice noodles), and Daojiao Town is known for its zongzi (glutinous rice dumplings). Head to Humen if you have a yen for local seafood like shrimp, crab and grouper.

Once famous for its red light district, Chinese officials have cracked down on Dongguan's various shady industries. But there are still plenty of ways to enjoy legitimate nightlife. Dongcheng District's Jiuba Jie Street offers the highest concentration of bars and clubs. Drink the night away—just be responsible, please.
