Frankfurt Holiday Packages

Germany's fifth-largest city and a banking centre for all of Europe, Frankfurt is the Manhattan of Deutschland. Here, old and new come together in an exciting blend of culture, business, history and progress. The city features not only a stock exchange, but also world-famous trade shows in the 578,000 square metres and ten exhibition halls known as Messe Frankfurt. Germany holidays just aren't complete without paying it a visit.

Things To Do In Frankfurt

Frankfurt is divided into boroughs and city districts, each with its own character. With a map and a Frankfurt car hire from Wotif, you can drive through the streets to view Wilhelminian-style houses and elaborate villas that survived two world wars. The Frankfurt Cathedral, a wood-framed Romer City Hall and the recently renovated opera house are common stops in most Frankfurt holidays. Here you can check out the architecture, buy postcards and practise your falsetto. Once you've been inspired by the Bavarian scenery, you can venture to the inner-city forest. Pack a picnic of pumpernickel, cheese and liverwurst, and find a good spot along one of four nature trails. You'll mix with the locals who come to feed ducks, hike and meditate on benches and in rest huts.

If you brought the kids along, you can let them loose on one of the many playgrounds or landscaped parks. The forest covers 48 square km in the areas of Schwanheim, Niederrad, Sachsenhausen and Oberrad. Wotif’s Frankfurt hotel packages are available in all price ranges. Stay in the Alstadt or Innenstadt districts near museums, theatres and restaurants, or become a regular at the bars and cafes in Nordend or Bockenheim. After breakfast, head out to the Goethe House and fill in what you didn't learn about this poet and philosopher during your English courses. From there, it's a short walk or drive to St. Paul's Church, where you can see the magnificent pipe organ and learn why it was the first structure rebuilt after the war.

Shopping, Dining Nightlife

Travel across the Eiserner Steg, an iron footbridge, towards Sachsenhausen for a late lunch typical of a Frankfurt holiday: pork shoulder, German potatoes, green sauce and traditional apfelwein, an apple wine that tastes similar to cider. You'll find it at any Apfelweinwirtschaft—say that three times fast!—the name for pubs where locals and tourists mingle together to enjoy hearty fare at low-to-moderate prices.

If you're not up for a pint, you can instead take the car to the Zeil and spend the afternoon shopping the mile-long stretch of shops and arcades. After all, you can't holiday in Frankfurt without seeing the art. Take a trip to the Staedel Museum and spend a few hours among 700 years of European paintings, sculpture and installations. A Frankfurt favourite is modernist painter Max Beckmann, whose moody blues and green cityscapes will stay in your memories of this historic and enduring city. Another good sight to take in is from the rooftop observation platform at Main Tower, where you can view the city from above. Photo op, anyone?
