Recently stayed one night at Freehand in NYC as a quick turn around trip. I use to live in NYC and have been to their rooftop bar MANY times.
PROS:
I really like the vibe of the place--the staff are great, helpful, and attentive. The ambiance is cool, they attract young, hip clientele and where it's situated--23rd and Lex--is a great location, central to everything and right on the 4/5/6 train line.
CONS:
The rooms are very dimly lit--like, I could barely see in both the main room and the bathroom to put my makeup on. I get that it's a vibe to have lamps and mood lighting but good grief, I was struggling.
The thermostat didn't work--it was flashing an error when I arrived so I called down to the desk and told the attendant. He said he would send someone up to address it.
I was in my room for 2 hrs before I had to leave for dinner and no one came to fix.
When I arrived back to the hotel 3 hrs later, my room was 59 degrees and the thermostat was still flashing error. I called downstairs again and again the attendant said someone would come service it.
No one came and I woke up in a 55 degree room with just a thin hotel blanket. My feet were ICE.
All in all, my experience is a one off, I'm sure.
The hotel is very cool, the staff really is great and the location can't be beat.
I will absolutely stay there again but next time, I will back a few extra pairs of socks and a hoodie :)
